Found a suspected bug where my crossbow vanished.
I accessed the enchanting table first...
Then I held down the shift key and clicked my Lapis which moved it to the slot in the enchanting table, then I held shift and clicked the crossbow - the crossbow and the lapis both vanished!
That is all!
