Making a huge map of our world with a friend, it has become apparent that there are multiple problems with their rendering. Joined here you will find examples of :
Multiple columns on the west updating long after they've actually been explored (up to multiple minutes sometimes)
Almost half of the westernmost column not coming in even after 20 minutes of reconnecting repeatedly, turning the Realm on and off, staying around for a while and running around for a while
Some pixels refusing to fill up
Pixels updating in a seemingly random order
EDIT : According to proof submitted in the comments, the pixels also don't update fast enough when you're going too fast (EG with Elytra) leaving blanks spaces everywhere
Please understand that these are not isolated issues, these are consistent across multiple maps of multiple different scales (especially the one about columns on the west edge really lagging behind) and they overall make what is a pretty easy and fun procedure in Java Edition quite a chore to go through.

I’m so glad someone else noticed this!!! I am having same issue with zoom level 4 maps when using elytra. I really hope this is fixed soon because it is such a pain to backtrack to uncover maps like this.


@austindailey15 wow I didn't know it was this bad with Elytra, at least we're doing ours on horseback so we dont have the "random empty pixels" issue anywhere but on the edges

Yeah, it was giving me issues using elytra even before this new update. It wouldn’t be as random as this, but sometimes I would run into invisible walls when traveling too fast, and the map would have square blocks (multiple chunks combined) of pixels with perfectly straight edges. It’s almost as if multiple chunks wouldn’t render at all when moving too fast, but now it’s worse after this update as you can see in the videos.

Can confirm for 1.12.1! Very annoying bug, i see this every time i use a map >.< For me is mostly the entire eastern column that never updates, or takes forever to update.

Is this still happening in 1.14? In 1.13 changelog there's an entry that says maps are now drawn "more quickly" and I have not had any issues with large areas / edges of maps not filling in. Note, this does not not seem to be the same issue as MCPE-56979.

I've heard a fair few people say that the south east corner of the map isn't updating, breaking the map wall achievement. I've yet to test/confirm myself, but i've had around a dozen different people have it happen recently.
