Tropical Fish glitch

I will spend multiple hours at a time just to hunt the coral reef areas for the perfect fish, any of the rare colored fish that can’t be spawned with spawn eggs. When I do, I catch them in a bucket and place them in a massive fish tank. However. If I try to bucket those same fish and release them a second time, the fish turn into the fish that arn’t rare (the fish that are white and a random color).  This has become incredibly frustrating since I spent hours collecting those fish only to have them change into standard ones. For example I had a red and green kob fish that was my favorite. It kept its color name when in the bucket however when I tried to release it a second time, it turned into a common black and white fish. This also happens with buckets of fish that are placed in chests, shutter chests and so on. I’m not sure what caused the glitch but it’s incredibly frustrating since I spend full days trying to find my favorite color combinations, only to have then turn into cheap common ones. I do not use any mods or skins but I do play on survival and creative modes.

All I find when I go looking for fish are black and white, grey and while, green and white, yellow stripes, red stripes, and blue and white. I've spent three days and nine potions trying to find some rarer colors, especially the cotton candy betta, but they just won't spawn

This will also happen when saving the game and returning to it. Fish in buckets will often turn to common ones.

I love that you really have to work hard to find these rare colored fish and I really do hope they are never available with creative spawn eggs. Still, it’s very frustrating to have all your work go to waste when they turm into common fish (a color/white).

What I do is kill off fish that aren’t rare and it causes new fish to respawn and take their place. There’s a chance that the new fish could be a rare one, however you need to find a massive reef and find just the right area where the new fish tend to spawn most often! It’s an insane amount of work but totally worth it! If you switch your game to creative mode, you can stay underwater indefinitely, without drowning. Good luck.

There were many times that I would doubt that the colorful fish even existed in game but that only made it SO MUCH more rewarding when I finally DID find one! I can’t express enough, how much I hope Mojang keep these fish in game and as difficult to find as they currently are! Basically everything that was once rare in the game (like the ender dragon egg) is just handed to effortlessly in creative mode, and that’s sad. I really want these colorful fish to stay special.

I'll explain what happened:

1.8 introduced a bug with tropical fishes (MCPE-39647), which is basically...
All tropical fishes had white/black as one of their colors. then 1.9.0.5 came and PARTIALLY fixed this issue, all existing fishes returned to their original color, while newly spawned ones were still bugged. BUT if they were collected and placed again, they were SPAWNING again, and that means they'd turn into bugged fishes again. I'm sorry to hear you have this issue, but happily, it has been completely fixed in 1.12.0.2. Please tell us if your bugged fishes return to their original colors after the update or if you'll have to find new ones!

Very interesting! Thank you for the detailed message! I’ll be sure to tell you if anything has changed!
