Iron golems can hit players through walls

When I hit an iron golem I went into a village house to heal but it killed me through the wall.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Build a 6x6x6 room with opaque block walls.

  2. Add a small entrance to the room (door, fence gate)

  3. Spawn an iron golem into the room.

  4. Aggravate him (punch) and quickly leave the room.

  5. --Stand next to one of the exterior walls of the room.--

  6. Move back and forth along the exterior of the closed area (may take a few minutes).

Observed Results:
The iron golem hits the player through the wall.

Expected Results:
The iron golem should not be able to hit the player through the wall.

Same thing happened to me on bedrock on my Xbox

isn't this a "working as intended" feature?

Additional information:
The iron golem cannot easily attack you through the wall: It seems to happen at random intervals. My experience has been that of the 3 times I was able to reproduce this issue, all of them happened when I was at a corner. This may be indirectly related to the issue where entities are sometimes able to squeeze through the theoretically 0-width gap between the blocks beside a corner, when the corner block itself is omitted, except that for this report it happens even when the corner blocks are present.

It also seems like, if you stand still near a corner and the golem doesn't get you instantly, it will never get you until you start moving again. Speculating, I might say that the seeming randomness might actually be caused by how the line between the golem's eyes and the player's collision box lies in relation to the theoretically 0-width gap between blocks in the wall. That is, it might be that if the line happens to be aligned with the plane between wall blocks, the golem can see and attack you there.

this is still happening in 1.19.40.22. 1.19.40.21 changelog says this was fixed

@unknown: I tested in 1.19.40.22 Preview for about 10 minutes and couldn't get it to happen. It only took 1–2 minutes previously.

Could you give us a screenshot of your test setup so we can confirm? Is it possible you're using an older golem, say because you generated the world from a version-locked template?

Since there doesn't seem to be any confirmation of a continuing problem, I am closing this report as fixed in 1.19.40.

Still Affects 1.19.80.24
