This bug ticket is a parity issue, since Java 1.16.2 pre1 has already fixed this issue.
Step to Reproduce:
1. Build a water elevator. (Either with Soul Sand or Magma Blocks at the bottom)
2. Throw the items that are affected.
--> ❌ Doesn't get transported by the bubble column

Cannot reproduce, ender pearls and snowballs are affected by bubble columns, however ender pearls also get pushed away from the bubble column.
