Since update 1.2.13, Realms member permissions no longer accessible.

The Realms permissions system (including the permissions button) is being worked on, but it should be a lot better when the changes are finalised and implemented. Thank you for your patience while we get this sorted out.

To add onto OP's description, this issue also appears on Xbox One, as well as Windows 10. There is no work around currently.

Regardless if the permission system is being worked on, the notion that the entire system is removed during that process is asinine. In a week, this issue would have been around for 2 months. That's 2 months without being able to edit permissions, that's also 2 months without being able to add new players (as they start with no permissions) and that's also about $16 (2 month payment for realms). This is entirely unacceptable for a paid service.

I 100% agree with Anthony. The fact that this hasn't been fixed yet, and is being excused at all is, frankly, appalling. I can safely say it has soured me on the idea of ever spending money on any Mojang/Microsoft related services in the future, and advising my friends to abstain as well. I never would have dreamed that a company like this would have the gall to completely break a fundamental part of the experience I'm paying for, and still bill me $8 a month for it. It's literally shameful how things are going down with this situation: we pay you for a service that is not being properly provided as advertised. The entire point of Minecraft Realms, indeed as it is advertised, is to enable playing with friends, this requires inviting them, which you can not currently do. Yet still, the sign-up form for Realms is publicly available. You're actively taking signups and money for access to a system you've fundamentally broken. Why is that acceptable to anyone involved with this game's development?

By the way, to anyone reading this, know you're within your rights to request a refund for your months of realms affected by this, if and when you are refused, call your bank or payment processor and have a charge-back issued, tell them the service was mid-advertised and unusable and you were billed regardless, and the vendor refused to refund you despite the service not functioning as advertised. You don't have to take this.

I am also among the ranks of both Anthony Farfalla and MWilson. And anyone else who feels they are being taken advantage of financially. I have a long list of people wanting to be added to my Realm. I can add them, yes. But why would anyone want to join a world on which the have no way of playing? The paid services should be the most important to Mojang. Realms is a paid product and service. We are not receiving the full product or service for which we are paying. I think this issue should have already been fix, refunds given to everyone who is using it during this time, and the payment structure eliminated. I'm not asking for free stuff. I'm simply stating the current paradigm of this company that was bought out by Microsoft for 2.5 million should be shifted immediately. I have no idea what the work force looks like under the roof of Mojang. But I can assure you, from this end, it feels like they are running things like an indie gaming company.

Just to be clear, you can still change permissions by means of the main Realms menu:

Click Play, and choose the pencil icon next to your realm:

Then choose 'Members':

After that, find the player you wish to change the permissions for, and press the '+++' button. You can then add or remove privileges:

Exiting to the main menu will then save any changes made.

This way, players can have command privileges given or taken away. If you have cheats enabled you can also set players into various gamemodes by using commands in game.

Mega_Spud, that setting is to add or remove moderator status from a player, and it has no noticeable change to specific permissions, i.e. Build or Destroy Blocks, Use doors, buttons, etc...

I have new players in my game who hold moderator status but have no permissions. This is not a work around for the issue, unfortunately.

What is the default gamemode for your realm?  I wonder if toggling that would help reset player permissions.

My default gamemode is Survival. I don't have cheats enabled or anything.

Ok, here's a workaround that will hopefully resolve the issue with player permissions:

1. First of all, make a backup of your realm world save

2. Next download a copy of the realm world - Be sure not to open the world - there is another issue that we are working on where player data will not load correctly if the downloaded realm is opened (MCPE-33503)

3. In the worlds menu, open the world option for the downloaded realm save

4. Here you can change the default permission options: under "Trust Player Permissions", choose "Member"

5. Exit the world edit menu (again, do not open it in single player)

6. Now edit your realm, and choose "Replace World"

7. Click confirm, and choose the copy of the world that you have just edited

8. The world should now upload, and the default player permission should be member rather than visitor

I followed every step, I did not enter the world in Singleplayer. When I joined my Realm, any enchanted tools I had lost their enchantments. I'm not sure if members lost their enchantments. Enchanted items did not lose their enchants when they were in containers though.

Visitors who have already been on the Realms did not have their permissions when they joined, however, if I removed them and then re-added them to the Realm, they spawned in as if it was their first time, and they had default permissions. So, this work around solved the issue.

@unknown - So were you able to upload a copy of the world with working permissions in the end?

@ Mega_Spud I’d appreciate it if your responses didn’t imply that being able to add new realm members is the only issue here - while I would agree it’s the most impactful issue, if you’re going to go around merging everyone’s bug reports, address and acknowledge the whole bug.

I haven’t needed to add new members since starting my Realm, but since the beginning of my Realm, turning PvP off would only stay set for each member while they were logged off - then while we were trying to figure out that problem, the entire permissions system just disappeared, as Anthony pointed out, TWO MONTHS ago.

I’ve been part of software development planning and sprints, and I have to agree that this entire situation is asinine. You don’t remove something like that without any warning or even acknowledgement for months after, to paying customers. This is not open source software or a beta test. And lastly, the feeling from this bug report platform is that minor issues such as “hey, sometimes guardians float in the air a little” garner an equal amount of attention and urgency as something that genuinely breaks the gameplay for many people.

It’s not a good feeling, and it’s making my friends and I consider going to a different game.

Couldn't agree more Amanda, while I appreciate Spud's attempt to find a work-around, and completely understand that the root of this issue is probably not his fault, my confidence has definitely been shaken. I too have been heavily involved in development, testing, and bug reports in the past, everywhere from professional media software to video games, and I don't think I've ever seen bug requests handled as poorly as they are being here. These are real issues, real money is being given to Microsoft for a service that plainly doesn't work. It's a nice thought, but we don't need half-baked workarounds when we're paying you guys $8 a month on top of the retail price of the game (multiple times over for many multi-platform users). Ignore the floating mobs and lighting glitches and fix what's important.

In the end, yes I have been able to upload the save and grant new members permissions. I have to echo Amanda's and MWilson's concerns here. While the workaround works for me, it may not work for others who are trying to target specific permissions.

I have already contacted Mojang about refunds for this issue, and Mojang does not give refunds. Period. This is worrying, and I can't convey that enough.

That being said, I think I speak for everyone following this thread that we appreciate your timely feedback and concern. However this is a huge issue, and it opens up the possibilities for people's creations to get destroyed from people who have permissions that the owner would not want them to have. This needs to be fixed. I waited about 2 months before I found a way to contact Mojang. I'm sure there are more people who do not know how to get in touch with the company and how to report bugs. They are paying their money that they won't be getting back.

I appreciate that the removal of the permissions button from in game has caused some inconvenience, but as mentioned the permission system is being overhauled. In the meantime worlds can be downloaded, edited, and re-uploaded with the necessary settings (for example, toggle friendly fire to disable PVP).

i come from German, I try my best english.

By My Realm Player permission is still missing. Also since Aquatica Update.

I am in Survival mode with 10 more members and chasing is out and you can not hire a visitor or give or take certain rights.

When will this be remedied see picture sent with.

They say problem with my account but the problem is with a lot of players who have a realm.

Today I have extended the realm extra to 310 days, we have a big project in Minecraft, and I, as a realm boss, want to get that attitude back so that I can better adjust the realm among the members.

Asking for clarification.. Based on Mega_Spuds actions that have been sent to my email, 3 months after this issue was reported, you are no longer considering this an issue, and simply removed the feature? I imagine that's what's happening considering your removal of the attached photo.
