Feedback site creates a new profile upon login, instead of using existing one

Some people log in to find their account is a new profile with their Real name instead of their real account with Gamertag.

I don’t really know what’s causing it, but when searching for help on the community support discord (I’d already asked Microsoft, Xbox, Minecraft help to no success), I noted that another person was having an issue with it, community support stated to that person that is was not related to Minecraft and could therefore not help.

I’m thinking if this is affecting at least two (possibly more) then this is a bug of some sort with the feedback site (regular Minecraft.net is fine though), I hope it qualifies here, I’m sorry if it’s not the kind of bugs you are looking for but I couldn’t find and resources for the feedback website related to this issue.

P.S: I don’t know the version of the feedback website so I’ve had to use a random version of Minecraft to get this serious issue across, apologies.

Any news on this? My sister just made an account and it doesn't have her gamertag. Can we have an update on what might be going on? Do we have to prove who we are because that's messed up since the real account has our in game names.

@Wolff

I don’t think this issue will last particularly long as the feedback site is an important part of the minecraft community, I think its just a case of being patient. Theres most likely a list they’re working down and they’ll get to it eventually.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on a feedback site bug being fixed. I haven’t even been able to sign in in years due to this bug: WEB-4529. If they are making their way down a list, it’s either slowly or a very long list or both. This at least has an assignee though, so that’s good. It does suck though because Minecraft is a game where community feedback is quite important and seems to be wanted by the devs.

Yo guys, my friend just received an email that Minecraft Support can't help her with this problem! What the heck is going on?? I wish I could give more info to help but it seems like they don't want to help us!!

Sniper1.1

You’ve heard back from support!? I’ve reached out to them several times over the past few years regarding the issue I linked earlier (WEB-4529) and never heard back! That’s got to mean that the linked bug is something to do with their system and our emails right? I’m not sure if that makes the issue better or worse.

TheTamedWolf

I looked at the emails, it was NOT supportive at all frankly, and they legit look like scammer material. It's really weird. This needs more votes or something. Needs to be higher priority. These new glitched accounts have people's real names. It's a privacy/security issue. Plus we are worried this will become a thing on the game accounts at this rate.

@Irritated Gamer

Ok, so minecraft support/help is dedicated to account issues related to the actual game, for feedback.net issues you put them on the bug tracker. I do not believe there is anything wrong with our emails due to the fact we are still able to sign in, rather it is an issue with the feedback site getting mixed up as to wgat our username is (though thats probably oversimplifying a little bit).

@Qui Tom Jinn

Okay. But if that's the case, why did Mojang Support on Twitter tell us to go there? That is strange, don't you think? Also, before she could login she had to pick yes on a strange popup that said something about an azure app. She took it's permission away after it all happened thinking it was malware. But it didn't change anything. Same thing happened to me. So I did the same. In any case, I hope this info helps them any, to fix this.

I do not believe azure is malware as (i may be wrong about this) it is developed by Microsoft, on the matter of the unhelpful support you received I reckon that was possibly just a mistake no? Who knows, they may have just been overloaded with issues and got something wrong under pressure. The important thing now though is its on the radar of the bug tracker.

TheTamedWolf

Hey y'all! I apologies for my outbursts. I had a panic attack. It's embarrassing but I thought you deserved to know. @Qui as far as azurewebsites goes, I looked around and some note that it can be used for phishing. That's why I freaked out about it. Whether that was the case or not, my friend says, they couldn't prove the account was mine even though the same name appears when I log into my account in Minecraft. They said since I couldn't provide my info to them, that they couldn't help me. They closed the ticket while ignoring everything I had told them. Microsoft doesn't even show me in my history that I bought Minecraft win 10 even though it says I own it. So I have no way to prove it's mine apparently. ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌

Hmm, thats cwrtainly interesting…and i imagine frustrating. Technology eh, its useful but sometimes infuriating.

theKIEgamer

Just thought I would put how it happened for me here in case it helps.

1. I tried logging on to feedback (same email as my xbox account).
2. I was prompted to give permission to feedbackloginppe
3. It logged me in with a new account displaying my full name not gamer tag.
I was never asked to make a new password or anything.

It’s a shame because I had some ideas/ votes I cared about on there and I'm not willing to start from a new account.

Same here.

Same, before this the feedback site kept on redirecting to the home page. After that was "fixed", this started happening. I didn't make a lot of posts, but long-time feedback site users are not in luck. For the redirecting thing, check WEB-4529.

TheTamedWolf

Same 😢

wan6845

Shortly after this happened WEB-4846 started to happen

theKIEgamer

Not sure if this is fixed for everyone or just me but I am now in my original account, just thought I would post this so others can test if their account is back.

JustJum

I tried logging into the website too and I'm also back to the original account

Mine too, thats weird. So do we class it as fixed now?

Makzevu

After I changed my Xbox username, my real name appeared under a new account as well. However, when I signed in yesterday, it seems that I have my original account back with the updated username.

TheTamedWolf

I just logged in and it seems to be my original account! Yay!! Thanks for fixing it! Though I still see registered user as the name for everyone including my own comments. That's a separate issue though. I'm happy that I have my account back!

wan6845

This happened shortly after WEB-4529, and WEB-4846 happened after this.

The reverse also seems to be an issue too as I normally logged in with my Microsoft account, but after linking a Xbox profile when I log in it's a new, empty account with my Gamertag instead of my real name.

This appears to be working correctly

LetsRoll8330

I had this problem quite a while back, but it fixed itself after a day or two. Things were normal again up until about a couple of weeks ago when it started displaying my real name again. Slightly irritated, I waited for the problem to resolve itself like last time, but it has not so far. I ended up having a long conversation via email (including screenshots) with the Minecraft help desk, and they finally just told me to check out this bug tracker site and upvote/watch any similar issues.😞

Now, I don't want to make any posts or comments under my real name because, if the issue does get fixed and reverts back to my regular gamertag account, any posts or comments connected to my real name will be left floating around, and I won't be able to regain any control over them.

LetsRoll8330

With respect to my last post in this thread...

I tried logging back in this week, and now everything is back to normal. Very weird, but I'm glad it's been fixed.
