i guess because they use different launcher version so they just reset your modded and other minecraft installation

maybe because minecraft launcher (New Version) Has a bug cuz i facing same issue

Try upgrade your OS to windows 10 or 11 maybe it will help? ( upgrade to windows 11 only if your computer support windows 11)
