As a temp fix you can make a resource pack that just replaces the Steve/Alex skins with your skin and give it to people joining the lan world
Don't hold the spawn egg when you click them
Also happens when trying to summon a Fireball
Did not happen in 14w34a (unsure about b,c or d)
Can also confirm for 1.8 Pre-1
Works fine for me (even tried up to 4 players), check that java is being let through the firewall on both pcs

I knew that targets worked for @a, @p, @f i just didn't know it didn't work for player names
Just set the Invulnerable tag to 1 either with /summon or /entitydata
