To avoid this, I think that thunderstorms shouldn't happen in deserts and other biomes where it doesn't rain.

I recreated this in a desert in creative by setting the time of day to noon and setting the weather to thunderstorm, but it wasn’t dark. So the issue is that when there is a thunderstorm in a desert, there is no visual change in the lighting.

I saw monsters that only spawn at night above ground spawning as if it was night or during a thunderstorm. But since it doesn't rain in deserts, it couldn’t be because of a thunderstorm.
