Additional information: This is only a bug at night. During the day, the respawn point is set even if you would be too far away to sleep.

As seen on Ulraf's Sunday stream (-:

Can somebody please try to confirm my vsync work-around?

Still an issue in 1.14

Going into video settings and disabling vsync seems to fix the problem for me. I remember that this was the fix for a similar issue back in version 1.7

Is it not just drowning?

Jamie, first you need to have taken a backup. Either you already did that yesterday, or you'll need some very exotic physics.

I restored .minecraft/launcher* from yesterday's backup, and started minecraft using:

java -jar .minecraft/launcher.jar

Lost my key bindings and had to log in again, but everything else is OK, and I'm connected to my server.

If you have a backup, use it.

BlueSansDouze's fix works for single player, but doesn't correctly build a login token for multiplayer.

Pretty sure the sounds are a separate issue, since there's also no subtitles.

I can run the current snapshot all I want, but cannot launch any other version (tried back as far as 1.4.7), including old snapshots, using the Java launcher.

Since there is no native launcher for Linux yet, that leaves Linux users unable to play the stable versions at all.

This behaviour is also caused by self-moving piston contraptions when ridden by a player.

I can confirm that this is still a concern in Minecraft version 1.9
