UPDATE: it seemed that an addon had been causing this to happen (in my case)

ikr minecraft is quite literally UNPLAYABLE right now…

just to add context, this is relevant as of 1.21.61

not sure if it's the same thing, but a seemingly related phenomenon happened to me where target blocks seem to redirect the redstone dust, but the dust will still continue to power the block that it used to (the dust is indeed being redirected powering the target block though)
