Having a similar issue in 1.8-pre1 Environment: Processor 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB Software OS X 10.9.4 (13E28) World Specifications Custom world using 'Good Luck' preset Seed: -3121430190921684343 Coords: 216/36/121 [XYZ] Biome: Ocean/Deep Ocean [Varies depending on exact location] Description: A lava ocean [within an ocean without water] is not filling the whole space and has a gradual shelf extending out from it, with a space underneath. When you place a block next to the floating lava blocks the lava starts to act like normal, spreading from the floating blocks.
