An update from my SMP and some possible insights from my experience. The recent reports to this issue confirm my suspicion that this issue has to do with files/database being updated wrongly, or, missing and corrupted files from updates causing issues.

We got frustrated with the lack of progress on this problem, so out SMP started a fresh world in early April 2023. I asked players to stay within 1000 blocks of spawn, so we could enjoy the new 1.20 biomes closer to spawn when the game got updated.

Right before the 1.19.83 update, we started seeing an old Bedrock glitch again, which I first reported here in 2021. The glitch with the repeating sunsets. Basically the sun would keep resetting the closer it got to dusk. This problem went away with the 1.19.83 update. This seems to confirm that just updating the core game files resolves that problem. (We don't use any mods). I also wait now 5-10 minutes after a server upgrade, to make sure I don't join the server before the upgrade process is complete.

I've only seen this disappearing structure issue once since the upgrade to 1.20. I was boating around, mapping the new terrain. A shipwreck that was partially above water disappeared as I got close, but this time it was replaced by a new shipwreck that was totally underwater. New POI had loot and looked "normal."

This shipwreck may have been in a chunk generated during the 1.19 phase of the server. It's in a border zone between old and new chunks.

The only related issue we are dealing with now is terrain not totally generating (or rendering) when players re-join the server after some time away. I usually just exit and rejoin. The rendering in 1.20 feels much improved.

We started a fresh Bedrock BDS server world in April. No big issues so far. Whenever I log in for the first time after a period offline, there are rendering issues. I typically log out and back in, which fixes the issue. But based on my years of experience with this bu and related ones, I'm making frequent back-ups and crossing fingers we can play for a year on this world.

As a web developer, I am puzzled by Mojang's lack of response to this bug. If I experience this bug again, I'm going to go the extra mile to get this on their radar.

This bug really deserves better attention from Mojang, because at this point, I would tell people that Bedrock is not stable in a shared server environment. We decided to start from scratch with a new world a month ago. Sticking to playing on chunks within 1000 blocks of spawn, mostly to not generate chunks until 1.20 comes out. But already, we're seeing rendering issues when users log into the server. Often, the problem is remedied  by logging out and back in. This problem started with the most recent Bedrock update 2-3 weeks ago.

I've experienced the problems described in this ticket, along with similar issues, on Bedrock servers every year for the past 3-4 years. I prefer Bedrock and it's sad that worlds can't make it past 6 months.

We've decided to restart our Vanilla SMP with a new world. This bug needs to be fixed and I will keep up-to-date with the progress on fixing this issue. Given that I experience bugs like this on my Bedrock Vanilla SMP every year for the past 3, I would tell people that Bedrock Minecraft software is seriously buggy. I always run into a glitch/bug like this around 6 months into a world. My Twitch viewers and supporters even joke and commiserate about this problem. One of them the other day asked, "Have you ever seen a streamer with a Bedrock SMP whose world is a year old or older?"

I will do what I can to help figure out these issues, maybe even learning some of the programming under the hood (I'm a web developer).

Unfortunately, it looks like this problem hasn't been resolved with the new update. Villages and ruined portals now don't appear at all, even as a mirage that disappear as you get close. I explored thousands of new blocks and new biomes on my Bedrock server last night and couldn't find a single new village. The netherrack base of ruined portals is generated, but not any of the structure, including the chest.

Desert temples, abandoned mine shafts, jungle temples, and ocean temples spawn normally. Also didn't see any shipwrecks.

This may be resolved with today's Bedrock update. I logged into my Bedrock server and saw improved rendering of the terrain. I then found an abandoned mineshaft and it didn't disappear when I got close. In fact, a creeper blew up under me and I died falling into lava. In the attached screenshot, you can see some floating oak wood blocks, indicating that the POI spawned like it should.

This issue developed on my world hosted on Shockbyte's servers. After copying the files to Bloomhost, this issue keep happening (as documented in my Twitch vod).

I've put together a little Twitch vod to show off the bug on my Bedrock server. This particular world was started when 1.19 was released last June and I moved it to new hosting in my effort to troubleshoot this bug. Timestamps of relevant examples below. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1718998950

Start: General examples of terrain not generating

17 minutes - Pillage outpost generating and disappearing

20 minutes - Ruined portal and village disappearing

23 minutes - Village disappearing

I moved the world to new hosting. I also have much faster home Internet. Loaded up the world, explore new areas. Found a village which just disappeared like before.

Attach the affected world? Which files?

How many of you are still experiencing these bugs and glitches? Mojang released their 1.19.40 update yesterday and after I installed it, I'm not seeing the problems I reported in my bug. I didn't see anything in the release notes related to this bug, but it is possible that some of this issue has been fixed.

Thanks. I didn't know how this would be described, so it was hard to search for similar issues.

This issue has been happening on our Bedrock SMP a lot since the Bedrock update two weeks ago. We run a very vanilla server with no add-ons. First thing I noticed that the transition time when traveling through the portal had gotten longer. Hear weird noises which I initially assumed were part of the update.

Several days ago, I died while going through a portal. Game said I suffocated in solid rock. This may be related to another new glitch I'm researching, where the underworld becomes revealed from the overworld when players first join the server. In this case, I went through a portal, materialized in a void, exited the game, and when I rejoined, the above death happened.

This problem has returned to the world save that this bug originally reported on. Sunset sequence keeps resetting. Also seeing lag with mine carts, drops, villager and mob movement. Zombies move slower. Waiting to see if the grand 1.18 update improves the situation.

Hi Mu! I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this, but it's also good to hear that this is a glitch that needs some attention. I'd be happy with just a theory of what's going on.

I first submitted a bug report about this problem in December 2020. I submitted this new bug in September of this year. About a week after I submitted this bug report, the problem went away for a few weeks, before happening briefly again. My theory is that this may have something to do with a mismatch between the server version of Minecraft Bedrock and the client side software. The problem went away the first time after I submitted this issue to Shockbyte, who moved my server to faster servers AND after I updated the Minecraft server software to the current version. It feels like this problem happened at the same time as a Minecraft Bedrock update which forced an upgrade of the server side version.

Yet, I saw this same problem last year and the game crashed to the point where I had to start a fresh seed on a new save.

I've created a new ticket now that this bug has happened again: MCPE-141768

The new ticket includes a link to a Twitch highlight video that demonstrates the glitch. There are no steps to reproduce this issue, as this has started happening constantly during normal gameplay. The sunset problem happens no matter where I am at in this world. Since this has started happening a few weeks ago, I see that mobs move slower and more jerkily. As my original ticket explained, this happened on my Vanilla Bedrock SMP world back in December 2020. Eventually, I could only log in, move around for 10 seconds, and then the game would crash.

I'm playing Vanilla Bedrock with no mods on a Windows 10 gaming laptop. My SMP is hosted by Shockbyte. The world has been updated to the most recent Minecraft Bedrock stable release.

The only other big event that may be of relevance is that this happened after I fought the Ender Dragon for the first time and generated the islands in the End. This seems to have started happening after this.
