Have the same problem, but it happened on my local iPad game (upgraded from 1.7), so not sure if it's BDS-related.

Did this:

  1. Created child account

  2. Logged on in Minecraft

  3. Worked, but showed no servers in "Servers" pane. It said something about xbox settings (not very informative).

  4. Googled 😉

  5. Found https://minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-multiplayer-server-safety

  6. Logged on to xbox parent account

  7. Allowed “Join Multiplayer Games” and Saved settings

  8. [media]

  9. Restarted Minecraft

  10. Crash to homescreen every time it starts.

The wifi-off/start/sign out/wifi-on trick worked. And when I signed in again it worked.. Very strange. Are the settings "getting out of sync" or something.

Ah that was because I thought it worked like the old behavior (when you let go after longpress, items moved). When the green bar stops, you have to click a target item. You can "relatively easy" split and combine stacks this way.

Version 1.2.14 on iPad. The "hold-and-green-bar-fills-guess-when-let-go"-trick doesn't work here at all. When you let go of the tile, the green bar stop and nothing happens.
