Xbox Live Login Crashes
Please note, this appears to affect certain Android as well as iOS devices. Please add your affected device to the comments below.
As a temporary workaround, some players have found that disabling wifi whilst the game is loading can prevent the game from crashing.
My daughters iPhone 6S when wifi is enabled, it will not load the app at all. If I disable the wifi, the app will load. It isn't a network specific issue because if Cellular data is enabled, it can open, and log into Xbox Live.
The issue is specifically related to Wifi only. Steps to reproduce:
install app from app store
leaving wifi enabled, open the app
– the app may or may not show the Mojang logo, but it always goes to a white screen and hangs, or it goes to a white screen for several seconds then crashes back to the home screen of iOS
I'm also able to get the app to crash when wifi is enabled AFTER the app is started.
When sitting at the main menu, the world background slowly rotates. If you go into the control center and enable wifi, after a second or two the background will stop rotating and the interface will be completely unresponsive. It will not respond to any touches. You have to disable Wifi and it will become responsive again.
I've also tried loading a locally saved world with wifi disabled, and it will load into the game. But when I reenable wifi, it doesn't freeze here. However, even though I can play the world I'm in and leave wifi on, it is not visible on my local wifi network. I checked that the Settings > Multiplayer > Multiplayer Game is enabled (it is). But the game is not joinable by any other iOS devices or any other devices playing minecraft.
Lastly, if I save/quit from the game with Wifi enabled, it will appear to save the world, but then will crash or freeze again when trying to return to the main menu.
There is some problem with getting to the main menu on her devices. I've also made sure there were no multiplayer restrictions setup on her iOS devices, so it can't be any interaction there. I've also tested and this issue is not affecting my iPhone 7+. It is specifically (at least for us) the iPhone 6S and iPad mini 3.

I'm having the same problem but with my IPhone 5

This is still in a bug in the most recent iOS update released on 12/7/17. The app freezes when connected to the local Wifi, and works fine when WiFi is disabled.

Its happening on Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 (Android 7.0) too
Updated title.

Same problem in G3 cat.6(G460S).

I have a problem when I logouted xbox, too.

My friend is experiencing the same issue. I am not sure how much this will help but it's on an Android device (Galaxy S8+) but also on XBOX and PC. He cannot join his own realm whatsoever. This affects multiplayer, not single player and he is able to connect to other realms just fine. I will check the wifi-disabled thing and let you know my findings.

I am experiencing this on iPhone 6S Plus and iPad Mini 2 both running iOS 11.2.1. I cannot edit or play on the realm I own. The application launches and immediately after it displays the “logging into Xbox live” message, the application crashes.
Could those experiencing this bug please give us an idea as to roughly how many followers and/or friends your XBL account has please? (We're investigating a possible link to the crash being associated with accounts with a higher number of followers.)

Crashes even with no followers or friends, only wifi on ipad

This happens on my son's ipad and he has no friends. He can't play MCPE at all - insta crash on or off WIFI, all at the time he logs in to xbox live.

same. randomly goes back to my home screen on my fire hd 8 (Amazon Kindle). Quite bit often too, its annoying

I am having the same problem still, it has not resolved. This is starting to get under my skin. I have an Android and I paid for the game and I can't play it. It's not like a disk game for a console where the CD is scratched so you buy a new CD, I can't download and redowload every time I want to play. I was doing that and now that has stopped working. I just downloaded the game 3 times in a row and the screen opens for a few seconds and then kicks me.

It was working fine earlier today but as soon as I updated the privacy setting in Xbox Live to allow my child to invite friends and play online the game now crashes once it logs into Xbox Live.
My child has no XBL friends at present so the friend count is not related to the system crashes.
I can confirm that disabling WiFi does prevent the crash however the user then can't connect with the outside world.
I can confirm that enabling cellular data results in the same crash, so the issue is not WiFi related.
The issue is related to online connection with the Xbox Live account in some way.
I'm using a Sony Xperia Z4 Model SGP771 with Android 7.1.1

I've had this problem about connecting to servers on the internet
(the app crashing when it tries to sign in to the Xbox Live service).
For me, it's version 1.2.8 from Amazon Appstore on an Android tablet
device (Amazon Kindle Fire) and most of the app crashes took place
when the WiFi connection wasn't working.
More details at https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-30183 .
@Mega_Spud There are no followers and/or friends for
my account, however the game has crashed a few times.
This seems to have been fixed for many players in 1.2.9.1, but oddly new set of XBL accounts have been affected with crashing since 1.2.9.1 - please see ticket MCPE-30249 for this new occurrence.

Although this bug is marked as fixed, it definitely is not! I have the same exact problem as the original bug report, except my MCPE will crash when I am not connected to the Internet. I am on version 1.2.9, and my device is an LG G5 (model H820). Please fix this bug ASAP, because it is very frustrating that I paid $6.99 for this game so I can play it on long trips when I have no internet, and I cannot! 😞

This definitely is not fixed. I have the same issue.

Please reopen, issue still occurs. (e.g.: [MCPE-31698])
Reopened, this still isn't fixed according to newly created reports.

started having this issue with my son's tablet. running android 4.4.2. updated to the newest version. 1.2.13. its a wifi only tablet. with WIFI on the game crashed when trying to sign into xbox live. turned off wifi and game doesnt crash, though that still makes it where he cannot join my worlds.
Edit: disabling xbox live sign in makes the game playable but cannot load any texture packs because they are tied to the Xbox live account.

After updating to the newest version "v1.2.13", I haven't had any more crashes (apart from one before I signed in to my Xbox Live account, when it wasn't logged in after updating the app). My device is "Tablet - Android - Amazon Kindle Fire".

Doesn't seem to affect iPad Pro 9.7 inch on iOS 11.3 running Minecraft version 1.2.15.
Could it be that your iOS isn't updated?
I know that you probably can't update to the newest iOS because of it only being a iPhone 6, but is this problem only reoccurring on low-end devices?

I can play only if Wi-Fi is turned off on the device.
If I switch on the Wi-Fi the game freezes until I switch it off again.
I installed the game through Apple Family Sharing service but the same happens with the IPad Air of who performed the purchasing.
iOS is updated. Minecraft Wars reinstalled yesterday.
Please fix it !...at least before my daughter turns 5 years old...You stil have some time 🤨
@unknown - Are you able to login if you use a different Xbox Live account?

To Mega_Spud
I never logged on because I have only wifi connection on my Ipad and if it is turned on Minecraft is frozen , if it is turned off the login doesnt work ...due to absence of the wifi 😒. So no login, ever.

IOS 11
v1.2.16
Child account
Crash to IOS home screen during Sign in
Did this:
Created child account
Logged on in Minecraft
Worked, but showed no servers in "Servers" pane. It said something about xbox settings (not very informative).
Googled 😉
Found https://minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-multiplayer-server-safety
Logged on to xbox parent account
Allowed “Join Multiplayer Games” and Saved settings
- [media]
Restarted Minecraft
Crash to homescreen every time it starts.
The wifi-off/start/sign out/wifi-on trick worked. And when I signed in again it worked.. Very strange. Are the settings "getting out of sync" or something.

Just checking to avoid duplicate issues:
I am unable to sign in to Xbox Live on the iOS version when connected to Wi-Fi. I am able to play when on cellular data, but the game eats through data quickly.
Version 1.4.0.5

I can play when I have got WiFi turned off, but when y turn it on again the game crashes. If I start the game with WiFi on it crashes some seconds after being in the main screen.

Same situation here - iPad mini 4 working for ages, including with version 1.4.3.
Tried to create Xbox child account - iPad worked fine without servers
Changed the setting to allow join multiplayer games - Minecraft started, showed "logging in..." and then crashed regardless of that I was doing.
Turn off wi-fi / logout from xcode solved the issue til we log-in again.
Crash logs obtained from the machine using XCode:

Same issue with an iPad 5th gen, freezes and fades to white screen over WiFi, switch to cellular and it unfreezes and works fine
only started with 1.6.0 upgrade

I have this problem with iPad mini 2 and 4

I have similar problem on
iPad 6th gen
iOS 12.1.1
Can enter world when wifi off
However as soon as wifi on it freezes and crashes
Or if it logins into my Xbox account
Currently unable to play multiplayer, realms etc.

Me too, on my Galaxy S9+
As mentioned in this comment above, this crash issue is often triggered after adjusting the XBL privacy permission settings for a child account, often the ability to see or join clubs.

This also happens in xiaomi mi pad 4, login and it will crash. The only difference is that even without wifi it would try to login. But if logged in during airplane mode it works but I can't connect to any servers due to invalid session, which ends up with me restarting Minecraft and causing again upon login attempt.

The workaround posted in MCPE-20548 worked for me:
— The solution was to first turn off internet access (flight mode easiest, turns off data access too if you have that). Then open Minecraft. Let this run its course, it'll try and fail to sign in. Then go to settings and then profile, where you can sign out of xbox. That'll pop up a secondary window to confirm signing out. On my iPad this can be slow to happen (taking seconds) so bear with it. Once you are signed out, turn off flight mode and then sign in (from the profile window where you are/were). This process takes you to browser and online to sign in. Sign in with your kid's account, and that will then go back to Minecraft and all should be well!

I also facing same issue in vision 1.8.1 bedrock edition I have a good internet connection in my phone it show "sign up please wait it take some moments". And mojang didn't reply there customer email very bad service and do some thing about this issu

My device is Samsung galaxy J7

SAME PROBLEM, LATEST IPAD, NO XB FOLLOWERS

Same issue on iPad Air 2

Same issue on:
-Samsung SM-T270R (Android 4.4.2)
-Samsung SHV-E470S (Android 5.0.1)
-Oppo CPH1803 (Android 8.1)

Same issue on iPad 4 and Air.

Same issue on my ipad mini and ipad 6 2018. Looks like it has something to do with XBOX login. Also I notice the default Minecraft Global Resources size is 0.0 MB. I believe it failed to reset the global resources.

The same issue on
Honor Play
OnePlus 6
Samsung Note 9
Samsung S10 plus

Cant Open Mcpe
Iphone 7 plus
I paid for mc also It in the newest version.

SAME THING IN SAMSUNG J7
I have pocket edition v1.11.3(official launch)
It did not log in to Xbox live like it take forever to log in
Also why mojang is not replying To my mail why are you ingnoing all customer email

Same issue, mostly I only get stuck at the white screen when on internet (switching off internet makes it load) , after a lot of attempts minecraft launches with internet but takes waaaaaaaaaaaaay much time to load in the white screen before the actual loading screen with minecraft logo appears, also can't create new worlds when on internet. Tried uninstalling Reinstalling the app 5 times nothing happend.

same thing in ipad 4
edit: nvm fixed it (idk how i did it, all i did was disable my wifi, join minecraft and work on my worlds, then like a few days later i went to minecraft with wifi and it worked)

Seems to be related to device age or processor. Refuses to load on an iPad mini or iPad Air 2, refuses to load on an iPhone 5, loads immediately on an iPhone 8. Same app, same network, frustrating as heck. Stuck at ~¾ loading. Never advances. Reinstalling does nothing, disabling WiFi does nothing.

I have this problem on Xbox One

iPad Air 2
iOS 12.3.1
Minecraft 1.11.4
Just finished setting up my daughter's iPad with an Xbox Live account and now it won't load whether or not I am connected to the internet (turned off WIFI). Tried turning off all content restrictions. I also tried changing WIFI routers. No luck.
My daughter has no followers since I just created the account for her. It did not fail until after I changed the settings (through Xbox.com) to unblock realms by allowing multiple player and clubs.
Update: Last night I tried 4 devices, crashed on iPad Air2 and iPad Mini 2, succeeded on iPhone 7 Plus and iPad mini 4. This morning it is working on all devices and I was able to log her out so she could play without risking it crashing. It appears to be related to the device, how recently the account was changed, and possibly whether or not iOS restrictions are turned on.
Update 6/17/2019: I think that Martin (below) has the fix. My daughter's iPad started working the next day. Probably the token expired and when it issued a new one, it started working again.

Same from 1.12.0.x relates from MCPE-47416

same from android

Same here on IPad Air 2. Created a child account for my daughter, but she couldnt join realms or add friends on IPad. Finally found settings on xbox.com and gave her permission. After that Minecraft on IPad won't start.
Tried all workarounds mentioned, and when turning WIFI off I can get into the game for a couple of seconds, but then it still crashes.
Her account only has one friend, and thats my account.
iOS version: 12.3.1
Minecraft version: 1.11.4

Ok, finally found a workaround/fix to this. Applies to iPad, but might work for Android too (then replace steps 1-4 with corresponding steps for connecting to the android filesystem)
Connect your iPad to iTunes. I use Windows version. If first time, wait for drivers to download. Follow instructions.
Mine started to backup immediately. If so let it finish.
Choose "File Sharing" in the left column, then select "Minecraft".
There you will see a couple of folders and a couple of files. Optionally save the "games" folder to disk as backup of the worlds, I did this.
The file "XBLStoage.json" (file is actually misspelled... 🙂) is the culprit. It seems to store xbox live connection info, including a token that i suspect might cause the trouble.
Select "XBLStoage.json" and then "Save" at the bottom (might need to scroll the window to see the save button)
Open the file on your computer and ERASE EVERYTHING IN THERE. Then save the file.
Back in iTunes, choose "Add File..." at the bottom and select the now empty file. Choose "Replace".
Press "Done" in Itunes and disconnect the IPad.
START MINECRAFT AND REJOICE! 🙂
I suspect the issue here is that when the account information changes (as when we changed our kids preferences), a new xbox live token is generated and the old one is invalidated. The token mismatch might then cause a crash when trying to log in. Erasing the contents of the file clears this. I might be totally wrong though! 🙂
Hopes this helps anybody else.
/Martin

Affect versions 1.12.0.6, 1.12.0.9, 1.12.0.10, 1.12.0.11

@Martin Gjerde you can do it on the "Files app" too on iOS devices.

I got Minecraft working in Iphone 5S (iOS 12) and Ipad iOS 10 with Wi-FI only after changing the DNS address to 8.8.8.8
I'm not happy using Google's DNS but my daughter is now more than happy indeed...
https://appleinsider.com/articles/18/04/22/how-to-change-the-dns-server-used-by-your-iphone-and-ipad

I experienced the exact same problem as @Martin Gjerde: after changing the privacy settings for my kid's account, Minecraft would always crash during startup. After turning off wifi, Minecraft would indeed briefly start up, but would then still crash after a couple of seconds. The crash is indeed related to XBLStoage.json, and getting rid of it fixes the problem.
As suggested by @Miguel Avalar the simple workaround (on iOS) is to start the standard "Files" app, browse to the Minecraft folder and simply delete the XBLStoage.json file. (Make a backup copy just to be on the safe side though.) There is no need to use iTunes. Afterwards Minecraft works just fine again, and the updated privacy settings are taken into account. A new XBLStoage.json file got recreated automatically by Minecraft.
Minecraft version: 1.12.0
iPad 6
iOS version: 12.4

@frank and @miguel... Thanks for the simple instructions that fixed this!

I believe we have this same problem. (IPad, MCPE.)
I got it working again-- briefly-- when I deleted XBLStoage.json, and restarted the Minecraft app. This was a huge relief. The app was no longer logged in to the XBox account, but finally-- after months-- MCPE was at least able to get into all the worlds without hanging. However, as soon as we logged back in to XBox account, the same hang-on-load started happening again.
I tried a number of manipulations, like installing the XBox app to log in to the XBox account, logging in via xbox.com on Safari, etc. But any way we log in to my kid's account, the app hangs on load. The only way I seem to be able to avoid the hang-on-load is if the XBox account is not signed in in the app, or the XBox app, or Safari, and thus is not known to Minecraft.
Is there anything account-specific that needs to be fixed, to make a given XBox account OK to use again with Minecraft? Is there something wrong with the account itself? Do we need to just create a new XBox account-- would we expect it to work again if we did that?
PS, one oddity with this. My kid has always said when using the iPad / Minecraft at a friend's house-- on their wifi instead of ours-- it's always worked, whereas at home it hasn't. I have no idea what to make of that.

I DO NOT have a child account nor do I have one associated with my account. I have no Xbox followers. I have only a couple friends on my account whatsoever. I DO NOT have just old versions of devices. I have iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPad Pro 2, iPad Pro. I also have an iPhone 6 Plus. All of these devices are used in my home with family members. Most all of them have various accounts of their own so they are not on the same account. The iPads are using the same account as two of the iPhones. (To clarify one iPad to one iPhone account - of course never trying to log on at the same time).
Current iOS 13.4.1
Current Minecraft Bedrock 1.14.60
i temporarily had a work around for the issue of not being able to log into the account on WiFi, but it no longer works. I would cut off WiFi then log in to the game. Once I started a world I could log into WiFi. Now I can’t. I can’t use WiFi at all. I have realms plus. I can’t use it if I want to use WiFi. I have over a hundred different worlds and skins and only half of those are from Realms plus. The others I bought. I can’t use them. Just using cellular is not an option because my service for cellular is horrible. I have the best internet there is here and it is wonderful. I can play all my other games with no issues. But I can’t get on Minecraft.
The characters fail to load as soon as it comes on (saying “character 1 failed to load, etc) and it will freeze the app as soon as WiFi is on and won’t even load it if I try to start the app with WiFi.
I can’t access the Marketplace, therefore my skins, worlds, texture packs are unavailable to me. Any character skin on my avatar on login won’t load at all when I have WiFi, but it will if I’m off WiFi. As an aside, I have Minecraft Earth. I have no issues logging on and using it with WiFi. It isn’t a phone issue. I’ve had this for at least two years. It’s gone from “I have a half tail workaround” to nothing works.
it’s all my devices. Every one of them. With separate accounts. Deleting files previously mentioned in other work arounds DOES NOT WORK. Uninstall/reinstall DOES NOT WORK. Cycling the phone, the game, hard restarts, NONE OF THESE WORK. I don’t have a firewall on my phone. Minecraft earth works fine. I have access to all my skins and my coins. And the marketplace.
I am spending monthly amounts for just the plus subscription as well as for items NOT in the subscription. I can’t access my realms on WiFi so I can’t use them. I’m asking for help. To actually figure out what’s going on and not attempting to say there is some half crap work around. I don’t want to work around the problem. I want there to be no problem. It seems strange that every device I have won’t allow this app to work and all the apps have different accounts (except the iPads). It isn’t a singular account.
and one more thing....I had a different internet company and Minecraft didn’t work on it. So I got a different company and with it all new internet hardware so I’m not using the same box. It didn’t work on the old internet and it doesn’t work on the new one.

Since experiencing this bug with the xbox live sign in: MCPE-78342 i have followed the issue to this ticket. Have since attempted and successfully logged into the game through cellular data only for the game to crash when wifi is enabled back again. Deleting the aforementioned files resulted once again in the error screen “sorry something went wrong, try again later or try on xbox.com”. When the XBLStoage.json file is created after successful log in any attempt to access the app on wifi connection results in crashes or the game getting stuck in the minecraft loading screen.

mojang still has a bug that when i enter without internet close alone, solve this quickly
Resolving issues that were marked as fixed in the 1.15 and 1.16 Betas, now that 1.16.0 is being released.

Disabling wifi while the app loads results in crashes or the screen freezing as of 1.16.0
Currently the only workaround is to use cellular data to complete sign in and then switch to wifi and keep the app idling since once it’s fully closed it’ll revert to freezing on loading screen.
As it stands the game can’t be accessed through wifi alone without deleting the XBLStoage.json file (which signs you out of your microsoft account once again) or bypassing the starting screens through cellular data and switching to wifi once login is completed, this no longer results in crashes as it did in 1.14.60.
Affected device is ipad mini 2 running 12.4.7 (which is the latest update for this gen)

The workaround is still not reliable since users report in MCPE-78342 that sign in through cellular data can also yield the same error screen “Sorry, something went wrong try again later or try on xbox.com”. Can confirm the first cellular network i used to bypass this issue no longer works and have since had to use a different one to attempt the above.

NOT FIXED!

Updated to 1.16.10 still unable to access the app through wifi. Freezing at start up. Reinstalling only yields the "Sorry something went wrong" error at sign in. Only able to play when data is enabled and switching to wifi after sign in is completed.
