Minecraft doesn't work on iOS after update to 1.13.0

Potential workaround

  • Make sure you are connected to a secure wifi, with no network parental controls or VPNs

  • Try logging out of the Xbox Live account

  • One user has found a potential workaround for the situation by adjusting their network settings, and has explained it in this comment.

Hey folks!

You’re always welcome to contact Jay & myself on here. We’re also both very active on Twitter.

We have been working on fixing iOS crashes for a while & continue to do so. We have engineers who are working hard to get fixes out & to you as soon as we’re able (as we have to go through certification & such). Thanks so much for the extra information some of you have provided as well - it’s sometimes difficult for us to determine where the crashes are coming from or why they’re happening. We really appreciate it & we’ll keep watching this thread. (I can’t personally fix it because I am not a software developer.)

We are working at trying to get a fix out for the issue as soon as we can, thanks for your patience while we try and get this resolved. We can't offer any specific dates for the fix, as there may be more than one underlying issue, but please be assured we are actively looking into a solution though.

Can confirm this is happening on my ipad 4 with iOS 10.3.3

Can Confirm this is happening on my iPad 5th Generation with IOS 13.1.3 and also on iPad Air 2 with IOS 13.2.  On the iPad 5th Generation I verified that Minecraft worked and then upgraded to Minecraft 1.13 and it is no longer working.  I also see the MoJang logo and then it just crashes.

Resolving this specific issue as fixed now - for the ongoing issue that is encountered after adjusting the XBL privacy settings, please refer to MCPE-29021.

Jay, is there a new bug related to "XBL network unreliability or unavailability makes the whole game unavailable"? If so, that would be good for most of the people who've reported this issue, and if not, I'd suggest re-opening and maybe even changing the description since a lot of the interested people are here.

This fixed my problem.

as suggested by @Miguel Avalar and @frank the simple workaround (on iOS) is to start the standard "Files" app, browse to the Minecraft folder and simply delete the XBLStoage.json file. (Make a backup copy just to be on the safe side though.) There is no need to use iTunes. Afterwards Minecraft works just fine again, and the updated privacy settings are taken into account. A new XBLStoage.json file got recreated automatically by Minecraft.
