Well, it's just that the door knobs are on the side where the hinges are and it just bothers me...
I've noticed the same thing in flat worlds that have been made in the recent snapshots.

It doesn't pop off if there is a block underneath the redstone torch.
I could swear you could hear from any distance before 1.8 came out. If you go on 1.7.10 then you'll hear it from any distance, if you go on 1.8 you would have to be close up to the Enderman.
