I am experiencing the same issue. The link on the server download page (https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/download/server) leads to https://piston-data.mojang.com/v1/objects/145ff0858209bcfc164859ba735d4199aafa1eea/server.jar - this server is 1.20.6
The error reoccurs on Microsoft Edge:

I am convinced that this is either not caused by user error, or that the error information is too opaque to allow a user to find and remedy the error.

The version information of the Firefox browser in the original post is:
124.0.1 (64-bit)
I can confirm that the page is now updated to point to https://piston-data.mojang.com/v1/objects/450698d1863ab5180c25d7c804ef0fe6369dd1ba/server.jar which is a 1.21 server.
