I had this issue yesterday. I may have been holding the map in off hand. What is the specific requirement ? If i went back again with an empty inventory an open the same chest would i get the achievement ? Does that chest need to be clear of items ?

Ditto. I did nothing and it works. Mojang or Google obviously did something. It would be nice to have this closed with a reason.

Changing your device's date to before 01 July 2018 works for me. This may help debugging?

I get the same issue on Samsung Galaxy tab A. I can get around it if I manually change the date to a few months before 1/July/2018 and it opens. Dont know why.
