I can confirm this is an issue in 1.16.4. I bred many bees with plenty of bee hives in an area only to have them disappear. I later discovered them in the middle of an ocean to the northwest hundreds of blocks away.
I have attached the launcher log. There is no Crash-report. My suspicion is that it isn't logged due to the reboot.
So apparently after trying countless times it never said it was finished but I decided to get on the realm and the world I was trying to replace it with was there.
I have the same issue even after 1.16. I have deleted Minecraft twice, tried multiple devices, and closed and open the realm multiple times. I was doing this on pocket edition.
i had uploaded a video directly to this thread showing the ability to place block inside of yourself due to this glitch, but i decided to remove it mostly due to my lack of knowledge about the rules on here and my fear of it eating up people's bandwidth. i am uploading that same video to imgur right now and once it's finished i'll edit my comment with a link to it so there's an example of this bug documented on here. hope this gets fixed soon!

just commenting since i found this bug too. it seems to be because the game isn't actually treating the chest as being open for long enough, causing it to bug out. the reason i came to this conclusion is because it always happens due to the player having a chest open for too long (about 6-7 seconds), causing the closing sound to play without actually displaying the animation. i'm also going to upload a screenshot i just took of this bug occurring to two chests in my singleplayer world on the latest snapshot
