I didn't remember this sound... I vaguely got to hear it in my brief first time playing in 1.2.5...

I hope this is fixed soon, as this is one of those little details that I loved (or feared?) the first time I got to the nether.

Although technically, I think the new bug is still related, I'll do as you request and report it in a new bug if it happens again... About the bug itself, I think the problem is that it's not just all directions that are inverted, but only a handful of them... If it just sent us always facing the opposite direction, It would be okay, although someone would still complain . But if half of the orientations are respected, and half aren't, then that doesn't seem very logical 😛

Ok, here are the possible cases, based on orientation of the portal, and side one enters:

Overworld->Nether

  • Created portal facing north/south

  • Walked north facing in that direction. Ended up facing east on the nether (Portal generated there was on the other way, rotated so they match and no extra calculations are required)

  • Walked again north looking at north (-179,7), appeared on the nether facing south (0.3)

  • Walked south facing south. Orientation didnt change this time, still facing south.

  • Walked backwards(north) facing south (0,0). Appeared on the nether facing north (-180,0)

  • Walked backwards(south) facing north (-180,0). Orientation didn't change

Same case, Nether -> Overworld

  • Walking north, facing north: Orientation didn't change.

  • Walking south, facing south: Orientation changed from (0,0) in nether to (-180,0) in Overworld

  • Walking north, facing south: Orientation didn't change.

  • Walking south, facing north: Orientation changed from (-180,0) in nether to (0,0) in Overworld

I don't have time to do the east-west case, but I thjink this helps a bit to understand the situation. If it's still needed, let me know here and when I get back I'll check it out.

Quite not fully fixed yet. Depending on the side of the portal you're teleporting from, you can get your orientation inverted. You can check it on video in http://youtu.be/pFSb51h4pxI?t=2m24s

And what's the point of that? That just makes me have to rerotate the mobs each time I enter the map. I made them stupid (and moveless with that) for a reason... I don't want them facing another direction as the one I set them...

I'm pretty sure it isn't. The spawned endermites despawning after 2 minutes is intended. Making an endermite not despawn after that time by using a name tag on it is also intended. But spawning an endermite through a named egg, which is supposed to work as both previous steps in one, and having it despawn after 2 minutes, that probably isn't intended.

And yet, it got "fixed" again :/

You're meaning MC-57884 I think... In my case, I think it was better that it didn't turn into dirt again, as it's a limited resource, unlike grass or mycelium (Same with coarse dirt)

EDIT: Now that I look here, it doesn't even have an assigned person on this "fixed" bug, that's even weirder...

As there's still no official words from any Mojang members, this cannot be declared neither WAI, nor as an actual bug... In my personal case, I'm hoping it's the latter, and it just got worse on the last snapshot, but time will tell...

Aww, why would you disable this? For some map makers, although it wasn't obtainable in the game, we already had it as a basic material. I know we now have Smooth Andesite, but it isn't the same (Doesn't look the same neither). I don't understand why do you disable it being placeable as a normal block, but you do let use the "setblock" command with it, it would be more reasonable either to remove both options or to keep them both (I sincerely prefer the latter one :c )
