This just happened to me today of February 20th, 2026 on Xbox Series S. I have a bunch of librarian villagers that were never traded with along with a bunch of lecterns. Well I break their lecterns and they don't become jobless. It was just working last night, I don't understand why it is randomly not working?
I've already tried moving multiple chunks away and coming back and it's still bugged out. I even went to a new village to test this out and yeah, same problem. I've tried restarting Minecraft and no luck as well.
The world is on my Realm if that helps.
@Flidgi766 I second this!
@J-Bear Same here! I refuse to play this broken game until I have all of my progress back. I've been playing Minecraft since it first came out on 360, and just like you said, I was also very close to beating the game for the first time. I had fully enchanted netherite gear and everything in my forever world, which is a world that is no cheat survival so I can get all the achievements. For now I went back to Minecraft Xbox One edition until they can fix it.
I will add my own experience to this since I was redirected here:
My Minecraft fails to sync as soon as I go into the game and the main menu loads up on Xbox. It says it is syncing, gets to 3% and then says it can't sync to cloud because there is no data left. I tried deleting local saves, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, restarting Xbox, etc. Nothing works. All of my worlds that are on the cloud are gone now. Gone as in they just don't even show up in the list at all. My forever world was one of them. Since I can't sync to cloud, I can't get them back. The only worlds I have access to are ones from 2022. Anything 2023-2025 is all gone. I had probably close to 100ish worlds and now only 48. I even tried deleting a bunch of worlds, but of course that didn’t work.
I found the fix! I fixed it by first breaking the job block, locating the villager the job block was assigned to (the villager will still appear to have the job despite the block being broken). Click to trade with villager but DO NOT go through with the trade. Back out of the trade menu, place down job block to see the green particles around it and then break it again. Villager will be jobless again and will fuction as it is supposed to.
For those who follow steps easier than a paragraph, here you go:
Locate job block and assigned villager.
Break job block (villager will still have job)
Go into trade menu with villager but do not trade.
Back out of trade menu.
Place job block down.
Break job block. Villager should now be jobless!
