Sorry NguyenFranky, just realised that this was an issue with the Fabric modded Minecraft... Vanilla Minecraft works fine. I should have checked vanilla Minecraft before adding my two cents to this bug report.
Mass drop does work when using the hotbar, but it does not work when you open an inventory menu/window.

Confirmed that this is still happening in vanilla java 1.19.2.
The screenshots where taken in vannila minecraft in a single-player creative world on version "1.18.1". I originally discovered this bug on my FabricMC survival server.
As mentioned before, I didn't want to loose any more wild cats in survival.
Recreated this bug in creative mode because I didn't want to loose anymore wild cats. As shown in the screenshot, I spawned two cats with the cat egg in creative and attached them to a fence post with leads. I quickly flew a number of chunks away and when I came back, one had despawned. Repeated flying away and when I came back, the second was despawned.

Igloo spawned on edge of snow and plains biome on edge of mountain...
I can second this... I was testing out seed "3327488709299075106" and my game was constantly crashing when in the vicinity of two of the strongholds (first at x-780 z1440, second at x2380 z-155). Once I increased the maximum RAM allowed from 2G to 4G, the game no longer crashed.
Confirmed still happening in java snapshot 25w20a.
