Comments

Version: Minecraft 14w28b
Environment: Java 7 Update 55 (64bit)
Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit)
Game Mode: Creative

I can confirm the existence of this bug report.
I placed numerous torches around a Blaze Spawner.
The Spawner continued to "flare" no matter how many torches I used.

Original Report: MC-61823
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64bit)

I created 10 worlds today and went to the Nether in Creative Mode.
I only experienced the problems mentioned in this bug report in two of the worlds.

Incident #1:
Entered Nether inside Netherrack.
Was able to break surrounding Netherrack with pickaxe, otherwise I would have suffocated.
Was able to use my pickaxe to go to the surface of the Nether.
There I found my Nether Portal. It was unlit.
Reactivated the Nether Portal and was transported back to correct Nether Portal in overworld.

Incident #2:
Entered Nether underneath a body of lava.
Was able to get to the surface and swim to shore.
The Nether Portal was on the shore It was unlit.
Reactivated the Nether Portal and was transported back to correct Nether Portal in overworld.

I am using Windows 7 and used the solution mentioned by JeffL:

— The simple solution for now is to download the correct splash.ogg from http://s3.amazonaws.com/MinecraftResources/sound3/random/splash.ogg (the place 1.5.2 gets it from) and put it into .minecraft/assets/sound/random. You may need to restart Minecraft after doing so, but it should work correctly after.

This worked on my system.

The first thing I tried was copying the splash.ogg from the .minecraft\resources\sound3\random folder. This did not work. I listened to the splash.ogg file contained in this folder and it had the correct sound, but it still did not work.
