This isn't really a bug. besides, if it was patched, it would ruin Loony's nether base volcano
Do you have elytra? if so, it is possible you crashed into a wall, which cause your character to be able to clip into top blocks.

You could store the items in an ender chest in the end, then collect via an ender chest in the overworld?
very common. Appears to mostly affect playstation.
Happens almost every time, incredibly annoying, far worse than the overworld co ordinate portal bug.
This also happens in 1.17.10
Hi, the bonus chest in the betas always spawns in a cave underground, if you dug down you would find it.
