Can confirm this behavior in 1.5.x as well, it has been happening for a while.

I'm attaching a couple more screenshots.
The first one shows how I was standing near the bed just before I clicked to sleep.
The second one shows a reproduction of the bug, showing the slanted flames.

The flames (along with all items laying on the ground) are a 2D image that rotates depending on where you're standing, and always faces you. What I managed to figure out is that when you go to sleep, the flames are still slanted towards where you were standing. I stood in many different positions and the flames were always pointing to where I was when I clicked to sleep.

This is how it works normally. This isn't a bug.

"When used underwater, sugar cane displaces the water, just as slabs do, leaving an air pocket."

Could you explain in a bit more detail?

This is just how they spawn

" They can be found in water of any depth, in any biome, and spawn on any difficulty."

I tested this out against many different blocks (sandstone, wool, glowstone, melon, furnace, birch log, gold ore block, half slabs, and stairs). I found that it does this with all but half slabs and stairs.

It almost seems like the potted cactus wants to connect to the block next to it.

Have you tried a complete clean and re-install?

Can you provide a more detailed explanation? I'm not quite getting what you're saying.

Are you using a texture pack? It may be a graphical error in that. Also, can you provide any mods you may be using, if any?

It's a thing (bug? not sure) in the world generation

"Sugar cane may grow to a maximum height of three blocks, but is occasionally found in new world generation up to seven blocks tall."

Yeah, that only works as a server command. The /difficulty command doesn't affect your menu difficulty.

Are trying this on Multi-player or Single-player?

A lot of people, me included, have been having this problem. I think it could be a problem in the LWJGL library, but I'm not sure.

Can you provide seeds? There is a possibility that you could have had seeds that just didn't provide villages. It is rare, but possible.

I tested it in 1.4.1Pre, and it worked there. As for what Nathan W. said, It's a bug that is still there, so it should be considered an ongoing bug in this version.

Just tried this, and managed to dupe a stack of diamonds and a stack of melons.

This glitch has been around for quite a while now. I know it happens in 1.3.x, i've seen videos about it.

It will also happen if a chunk unloads with a fireball moving in it.
