I hope this video can convey the issue more clearly.

Every time the character crouches, it's because I'm pressing the Shift key. As you can see, after I use the text box in the anvil, no matter how many times I press Shift, it no longer activates the input method.

Because at this point, all keystrokes are correctly captured by the game—whether it's Shift, W, A, S, or D. Regardless of whether the input method is in Chinese or English mode.

I understand my explanation might have been a bit convoluted, but please note that all input method issues completely resolve after clicking on any text box. You might be able to use this as a starting point for investigation.

Therefore, the core of the issue is that, from the moment the game starts, it fails to properly disable the input method to directly capture keyboard input until a text box is clicked.

Microsoft Pinyin

As you can see, I pressed the Shift key while crouching. The Shift key toggles between the Chinese and English modes of the input method. In Chinese mode, I couldn't walk, but after pressing Shift to switch to English mode, I was able to walk again.

After I opened the anvil interface and entered text, all keystrokes, including the Shift key, were correctly captured by the game. At this point, the Shift key no longer functioned as a Chinese/English toggle for the input method. Regardless of how I pressed Shift, the letter keys were properly recognized by the game.

The key issue is that this behavior only occurs after launching the game and before any text box gains focus for the first time. Once any text box is clicked, the problem completely disappears.

I am a simplified Chinese user and I use the WeChat Input Method in the video.

Different input methods behave slightly differently, but they all share the same issue: the receiver of keyboard inputs is the input method, not the game. As per your request, I tested the behavior of different input methods:

Simplified Chinese:

  • WeChat Input Method: Displays the input box in the upper-left corner of the screen, as you saw in the video.

  • Microsoft Pinyin: Does not display an input box on the screen but still intercepts keyboard inputs (i.e., keystrokes do not register in the game).

Traditional Chinese:

  • Microsoft Bopomofo: Does not display an input box on the screen but still intercepts keyboard inputs.

Japanese:

  • Microsoft IME: Displays the input box in the lower-right corner of the screen.

Microsoft input methods can be found in the system language settings. You can try enabling them yourself to see the behavior.

The Shift key acts as the Chinese/English toggle key for both Microsoft Pinyin and the WeChat Input Method. Pressing this key turns the Chinese input functionality of the input method on or off. After pressing Shift to switch to English mode, the game can properly receive inputs from letter keys. Pressing Shift again will cause the input method to take over the inputs once more.

Please note that this issue occurs 100% of the time after launching the game and before any in-game text control gains focus. Once I focus on any text control, all functionality returns to normal.

Normal behavior means:
When playing the game with a CJK input method, at any time when no text box is in use, all keyboard inputs are handled by the game. The input method is only invoked when a text box is used, displaying the input method candidate window near the text box (usually below it).
