This isn't the only way to get totems and emeralds BTW, but are you talking about patrols or captains? Patrols don't give you bad omen. Only captains with banners will effect you with Bad Omen.
I have this same issue on my Realm, where I can go through the portal, but my friend always gets stuck. This happens to me when I or him go to the End as well. Sometimes the game just crashes on him on the loading screen, and the other day when he got into the portal, his screen wasn't even getting all squiggly and purplish from the portal block meaning the game wasn't even trying to teleport him. This is a serious bug that needs to be fixed
I mean villagers don’t drop ANYTHING. Not even xp.
