The Bug:
Dirt paths drop dirt when mined with silk touch.
Steps to Reproduce:
Place down a dirt path.
Give yourself a shovel enchanted with silk touch by using the command provided below.
/give @s minecraft:diamond_shovel[minecraft:enchantments={levels:{"minecraft:silk_touch":1}}]Mine the dirt path using the shovel enchanted with silk touch.
Observed Behavior:
Dirt paths drop dirt.
Expected Behavior:
Dirt paths would drop dirt paths when mined with silk touch.

Can agree with that, this sounds more like a feature request. you can't mine stuff like mob spawners and mushroom stems to get the exact block so this is intended.
Reiterating above statement, since there is also now a similar ticket for frogspawn: MC-249142
Works as intended. You shouldn't be able to get path blocks via breaking grass.
