When the new chunks are loading the client create huge lag spikes in singleplayer.( when loading 5-20 FPS, when loaded back to normal 50-60 fps.)

The bug

When the chunks load(only new chunks) the fps is going to decrease. Sometimes creating huge lag spikes when I enter the world(generating the new chunks, 1-10 fps). But when I creating a world or explore the world in creative mode I got huge fps drop. Sometimes the game freezes. In version 1.12.2 I had no such problems.

And huge lag in superflat worlds.

Christian Rau's comment:

I certainly optimized my world from 1.12.2 to 1.13 and experience an overall much more laggy gameplay. There's perceivable stuttering compared to a rather smooth gameplay in 1.12.2 and it's a seemingly constant situation. And it's a rather small singleplayer world (I explicitly culled the majority of my world's chunks in preparation for 1.13).

FuturTybz's comment:

I can confirm for 1.13 release. At first, I wondered if it was because of my bad PC but apparently not. The game is very smooth when standing still but there is a huge FPS drop when loading chunks that it is almost unplayable for those who have a low-end PC. There was no such issue in 1.12.2. This problem is still present when on a 1.13 vanilla multiplayer server.

Martin Oláh's comment:

Tested it myself, it stutters and lags alot, considering my specs are pretty high so this shouldn't be happening.

  • 1.13 is insanely laggy, I tried adding more ram (4gb) it fixed the issue for a while, after few minutes it stutters again

  • On 1.12.2 this doesn't happen at all, gameplay is butterly smooth also with 1gb allocated.

Do the chunks ever load? If not then this is a duplicate/clone of a much older issue.

Can confirm, I get massive lag even on superflat worlds, a fix for now is to decrease the render distance.

Still an issue in 18w20a

migrated

Can confirm. Lag builds up within smallest time frames, to the point of OutOfMemoryError crashes without warning. (I have the quadruple of the regular RAM allocated.)

migrated

Can confirm. I can't play 1.13 due to this huge lag issue.

This issue still occurs on superflat worlds but it's only lag spikes when you generate new chunks.

migrated

This is not fixed in 1.13-pre6. Please open again this issue.

Also affected 1.13-pre8.

also affected 1.13 with unloaded chunks and is worse when using linux with official oracle java 8 also the world is a brand new 1.13 world also here is a video where i test does fps lock settings affect it at all and i can say not so chunk rendering is at fault here https://youtu.be/0MxGdhDQpH8

I can't play minecraft anymore because its very laggy.

Please who also have this problem write a good comment and I'll paste it into my bugreport.

And I have this second big problem: MC-124170

kumasasa

Did any of you "optimize" the worlds in 1.13 before playing?

migrated

I can't play in the 1.13 worlds. I have a little bit bad laptop but the 1.12.2 version ran fine.

So yeah! Not only low end PCs affected. Martin Oláh made a useful video.

I have a bad laptop with only 2 GB of RAM. Minecraft 1.12 was playable... now with 1.13+ seems like I have to say goodbye to Minecraft or stay in 1.12.

Anybody who has this bug please write a good comment!

Thank God I not the only one who has this issue, even with Optifine, my game is unplayable when a world is loaded........and my FPS took a huge dip when I'm moving through terrain, I need a temporary workaround for this while this is unresolved.

migrated

Tabbing in and out of the game after loading a save resolves the issue for me entirely.

wobst.michael

Please check if that's still an issue for you in 19w45a.
