After 30 minutes of farming with a sword looting 3 (100-200 drowned) no trident in the loot.. I hope it's not a "work as intended" behaviour..

It has to be holding a trident in order to be able to drop a trident.

Ok it does make sense, and explain everything..

Is it supposed to be 100% drop rate when they hold one? Because the last two didn't drop one (using 18w16a)

Nope, it's a vary rare drop (0.5% i remember) and now is ONLY if they hold one.

the wiki has no mention of the reqirement that drowned must be holding a trident for this to occur. It says "

  • 0-1 [
Trident|https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Trident][Bedrock Edition only] (3.7% chance each, 4% chance with Looting I, 4.3% chance with Looting II and 4.7% chance with Looting III).

  • Any picked-up equipment has 100% chance of dropping and will drop with the same damage level it had when picked up."

This bug has not been resolved.

The wiki is incorrect. It's written by community members and is not an official source.

where can we go for an official list of these drop tables?

i have killed 350 drowned if my statistics page is correct, maybe 10 of them with a bow, but the rest for sure with a looting III sword. some of them had tridents, all of them spawned naturally on an ocean biome, still, no trident drop.

Don't quote bedrock edition odds from the wiki. This is not a bedrock edition ticket. This is Java Edition. Tridents aren't on the loot_table AT ALL.

The only way you can get a trident on Java Edition is if a drowned spawns with one in it's hand and you kill it. Then you have whatever highly rare chance of it dropping what it's holding (1 in 100 or less I believe but don't quote me). Every entity that spawns with something in it's hand has a stat for the chances of dropping it. It's always low (not counting items picked up after spawning). When was the last time you saw a zombie with a sword actually drop it's sword? Yeah that's how rare a trident in Java Edition is. Wither skeleton heads are highly common compared to tridents.

Of course if it's your world you can just write an edited loot table file and drop it in the appropriate folder in you world's datapack folder. Then there WILL be a chance in hell of you actually getting a trident. Or you can wait until Mojang finally fixes this rarity bug. Might be a year or two knowing Mojang, especially since Bedrock Edition is experiencing a "tridents are too common" bug at the same time.
