MC-130734

Boats and boats with chest are very glitchy in bubble columns

Boats are going crazy when pushed up and they don't even get pulled down.

  1. Place a boat on water and get in.

  2. Drive in a water elevator out of magma blocks and soul sand blocks.

  3. Realise that it is very clunky and glitchy.

  4. Then realise that soul sand doesn't pull down the boat with you and doesn't even do anything than dancing really.

  5. Be very angry! >: (

Hope it helped. I'll link a glitched out shematic (because of MC-130733) which should give you an idea. Just use a structure block to place it.

I encountered this issue on 1.16.4 while trying to design a canal lock using soul sand. The boat on top of the soul sand column moves erratically and jumps into the air at regular intervals. When ascending, it sometimes but doesn't always get stuck half a block below the top of the column. Player movement rubberbanding happens when attempting to leave a boat on a soul sand column.

The boat floating in bubble column is intended as per MC-125272.

MC-153048 is another instance of this. This issue is also marked as "can't reproduce" which I find very hard to believe - I'm currently having trouble not reproducing it while attempting to build a boat elevator...

The description should be edited to remove the part about boats not being pulled down/soul sand not doing anything. Boats do get pulled down by bubble columns made with magma blocks and soul sand launches the boat as per MC-125272. The "clunky and glitchy" part of the report seems to hold up, although its pretty vague. It could be added that a 1 block high bubble column from a magma block doesn't completely sink the boat (it continues to rock back and fourth whereas taller bubble columns cause the boat to become stationary)
