In the new snapshot 13w21 there is a bug where if you haven't tamed a horse yet you can still put a saddle on it using the inventory. The horse acts as if it is tamed. When the saddle is removed however the horse becomes unfriendly and will try to kick you off again.

Confirmed in 13w21a.

I just had the problem with 1.6.1 release. I just exit and reload to fix the problem, but it may be an issue.

migrated

It seems to be a chunk loading issue, as the same result can be accomplished by simply logging out and back in again, but only if the chunk the horse is in is either 1 or 2 chunks away from the chunk the player starts in. Starting in the same chunk or starting 3 or more chunks away allows the lead to appear normally.

I have screenshots if it will help, but I'll hold off attaching them unless requested.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

This is still happening in 1.6.2

migrated

Confirmed in 1.6.2. You can start any game in Creative Mode, Spawn a Horse, Lead it to a fence. Type /Kill. (Leash Gone).

• Tested in Survival and Creative.

Voted. Moreover, when I hit the fence (with the invisible lead) and tried to mount the horse, then closed the world and re-entered, the horse and the lead where gone, disappeared. The reason I closed the game and re-entered the world was because I couldn't mount the horse. It only happened once and I didn't try to reproduce it.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.7.4 / Launcher version 1.3.8 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

In 14w21b, the leash breaks after death. (= Fixed?)

I don't know when my lead became invisible, but it's not limited to exiting the world or dying. In my picture, my horse is attached to a Nether Brick fence, and I'm in 14w21b.

Still an issue in 1.7.10, confirmed. Also as Marios said, sometimes both the lead AND the mob you have tied to the fence post disappear! I had a named cow tied to a post, died, and returned to see the lead rope invisible, but the cow still acted tethered (didn't wander beyond the boundaries) and the rope was still tied around the fence post.

A while later, I'm not sure if I died again or not, but I came back again, and the lead and cow were gone entirely. I searched the whole area to see if he'd gotten loose, but no named cow was anywhere in my fenced-in yard. 😞

R.I.P Crafty the Bull... killed by glitch.

The same happened to me but hasn't for a while. my horse was tied to a post, but then i died by accidentally falling to the end of the world (creative mode). when i respawned, my horse's leash was gone. When i tried to ride him, he wouldn't go beyond the lead's boundaries. when i killed him, he dropped the lead! Very confusing but i haven't encountered it for a long time.

Isn't this a dupe of MC-68403?

kumasasa

Kinda related. But MC-68403 is way newer.

migrated

Yeah, but it's also much more comprehensive and well-known.

Is this still an issue in the most recent versions (currently that is 1.10.2, or 16w42a) of Minecraft? If so, please update the affected versions and help us keeping this ticket updated from time to time.

lord.quadrato

I cannot reproduce this bug anymore.

Note that the leashed entity needs to be in the loaded chunks when you die and when you respawn, otherwise it would be MC-14826 because the chunks get unloaded

kumasasa

More than a year no update to this ticket, assuming this was somewhen fixed.
