This could be easily fixed by making the wall sign use normal block models for rendering, and only use block entity rendering for the text. Would also allow for face culling.
Would the fact that the wall sign's hitbox is vertically offset by half a pixel, as opposed to being aligned to the 1/16-pixel grid, come under this issue?
