Lily pads can be placed client-side in protected areas

The bug

If a lily pad is placed on water in a protected area (i.e. at spawn), its placement will be cancelled on the server but not on the client. This allows players to place "phantom" lily pads and then walk on water in protected areas.

Confirmed.

Still exists in current snapshot.

Is this still a concern in the latest Minecraft version 13w42b? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

This still remains an issue in 43a

Just to add, this bug is being exploited by players to "water walk" on pvp mini-game servers. By placing lilypads client-side while they are in creative mode prior to the start of the game, they can walk on top of the water later.

No response for over a year.

Frustrating that this was closed. This bug has never been addressed and definitely still exists in the latest version of the game. Putting the onus on the submitter to continuously test and update the "affected versions" on a regular basis doesn't seem like a good policy :/

Mojang doesn't have the time to see if every issue reported is still valid, and neither do we mods.

It's up to the reporter and other people watching this issue to keep the affected versions up-to-date so Mojang can see in the blink of an eye, if it's still an issue.

Can confirm for MC 1.12.1.

Forward resolving to MC-54119 because that one has more info and has been used as main ticket for this issue over the years.
