Unplayable conditions when Pillagers loaded. Extreme lag spikes.

Server experiencing extreme lags when Pillagers are loaded.

Game goes from running smoothly to crash like state. Nothing loads and players start dropping into the void through the world.

Took us a while to figure out Pillagers / Illagers were the problem, yet confirmed by loading a Pillager Fort (this caused what described above) We then killed all Pillagers there with console, which stabilised us to be able to play again. (Although short lived as they respawned.)

Appears to only be happening since 1.14.4. this was NOT an issue on our server for 1.14.3.

I believe I have experienced this same problem. I have attached two debug profiles taken a few minutes apart. There was 3 people on the server at the time, and one person was in there based with around 30 pillagers (maybe 6 different patrols) spread around the loaded chunks near them.

Also having this problem. Virtually all of the lag I'm experiencing in 1.14.4 is due to pillager patrol pathfinding, even outside of Outposts. Six or seven pillagers are enough to cut server TPS by 25-50% very quickly. I've been testing this for a few days now on my server, and it seems to have to do with their pathfinding. When I kill all of the pillagers, or I teleport all of the pillagers loaded in the world to me in creative mode and they don't aggro, the TPS goes back to normal. If I fly over them in survival mode so they can target me, and then I switch back to creative, they continue to target me and shoot at me even when I'm in creative mode, and server performance starts to drop.

This is exactly what was happening to me when I lodged MC-158256.
Very similar profile results (attached my profile results above profile-results-2019-08-03_12.35.16.txt)

I fixed it by lighting up the area around the pillager outpost with torches (which was not fun in the early game...I recommend against outposts in the spawn chunks)
This also explains why the world I've been playing since 2016 doesn't have the issue. Everything is lit up for such a distance that pillager patrols don't spawn.

The same thing also happened when a fox AI started doing something strange (attached as profile-results-2019-08-04_12.58.57.txt)

I've been experiencing this quite a bit as well. It was always the pillagers, and killing them always fixed it. Pretty sad this hasn't even been addressed yet.

Techman88 suggests a temporary fix for 1.14.4 with a command block:

Note that this will change the patrol behavior a bit, but is still better than extreme lag.
