Fundamentally broken Nether biome distribution since 20w17a

The bug

The changes to biome distribution were unannounced by any official source. The main bug here is that certain Nether biomes are always incredibly tiny and/or can never be as large as they used to. Here are the seed and coordinates for tiny Nether biomes:

Warped forest "microbiome": Radius: 12 blocks. Seed: -1118759503779387613 Command:

/execute in minecraft:the_nether run tp @p -1073 86 -30

Soul sand valley "microbiome": Radius: 36 blocks. Seed: -8511534518682158031 Command:

/execute in minecraft:the_nether run tp @p -228 73 156

As shown, soul sand valleys and warped forests can generate extremely tiny, and if not, they never generate as big as they used to. Also notice that most of the new Nether biomes have been made really rare. Here is the list of biomes and their percentages, in order from biggest to smallest:

  • Nether Wastes: 57.278%. This biome practically composes 60% of the Nether, a significant increase from the old Nether biome distribution.

  • Crimson Forest: 25.287%. Though the amount of crimson forest has not changed significantly, crimson forests are still smaller and more distributed.

  • Basalt Deltas: 8.897%. Basalt deltas are smaller and more distributed.

  • Soul Sand Valley: 6.820%. Soul sand valleys are way smaller and rarer than they used to be, making soul speed less useful.

  • Warped Forest: 1.718%. Warped forests are super rare and often too small to keep you safe from the Nether's dangers.

This is unbalanced compared to the old generation, which had fairly even biome distributions.

I noticed my basalt delta was close to 900 blocks end to end, biome size has been altered

Nether Wastes is so common in so many worlds I tested.

Confirmed. This can cause soul sand valley biomes to generate really tiny. There were suggestions to make soul sand valleys more rare, but I have not seen a single suggestion or comment complaining about the size of soul sand valleys. They're so small, soul speed is practically useless.

Also warped forests. I wanted them to be rarer and smaller than crimson forests, but I didn't mean a radius of 12 blocks.

It literally took me 5 minutes to find an extremely tiny warped forest (using the locatebiome command). To find a warped forest with a literal 12 block radius, use the seed -1118759503779387613 and run the following command:

/execute in minecraft:the_nether run tp @p -1073 86 -30

I completely agree. Warped Forests are more of Warped Treelawns now.

The 20w19a Nether biome distribution seems to be a lot more balanced, as there is a substancial amount of every biome. It greatly reduces or removes the problems the two previous biome generation has.

I can confirm It changed again, it's better distributed now.

The biomes distribution is better now 😃

I don't know much about the biome generation changes put in place but from what I'm seeing biome generation is broken again. I've looked for a newly reported issue on this but haven't found one. I'm finding very small biomes, like this tiny Basalt Deltas and this pretty small Warped Forest. I can't find the tiny Basalt Deltas anymore but here's the world seed. -5600731631520659808 The Warped Forest coordinates are in the pictures.

The final picture is a back view from the second picture.

try generating a world in 20w19a and the most recent snapshot and see if the generation is the same.
