Slim skin model appears as original skin model

Probably caused by the fix for MC-180168.

When requesting skin data for a slim model, for example through https://sessionserver.mojang.com/session/minecraft/profile/ec561538f3fd461daff5086b22154bce, the encoded json object is missing the skin information.

I also have the same problem. When i put my slim skin it changes to steve hands automatically😞

Same thing for me. I tried to switch versions, didn't work. So i tried to log out of my account and log in back, didn't work. Please fix it!!

NOTE: This is an issue that persists to pretty much any version with Alex and Steve character models, not just 1.15.2 and snapshots.

I've been having the same problem where my skin is on slim, but it shows up as classic, with the black bars.

My skin is doing the same thing... Slim skins load just like a Normal skin would...

This is happening to me too

It affected all versions and slim still doesn't work...

I am now also having this problem and my sister. We got on and our skins were not changed and it went to the Steve model. We tried changing our skins and didn't solve the problem. i even reset the game and didn't help us either. if you could please fix it. thank you! 🙂

What are we supposed to do with the information mentioned in the json file? Can you please provide what is the file that is missing that information and where the data is missed?

Same, even on the site NameMC it shows skins with slim selected wrong. Maybe "slim" is saved as "classic" when uploading a new skin?

Also for example if u are on Name MC and u go to a skin with the slim and click it at first it shows the steve arms not the slim arms and then when u hover over it, it shows the alex arms. that's so weird. I thought maybe its just a prob w name mc bc i get the skins from there but then i used a dif site n it still doesnt work... please fix i look stupid lol

I have the same problem. Here's my experience with it.

I last updated my skin a few weeks ago. The problem only appeared today.
I go into a singleplayer world, no texture packs, no mods (no OptiFine), 1.15.2, and what happens is in the 2 photos I attached (using F5 to look at myself from the back). I also attached the skin file.
I went back and reuploaded the skin to both minecraft . net and to the launcher, waited half an hour, no change.

Anyway, hopefully this gets resolved soon and I love seeing how the community jumps on stuff like that to deal with it as soon as possible. Good luck, and hopefully my images help.
I also attached an image showing that when I go into the "skin" section of my Minecraft profile, I see the model selected being "Classic", even if I already uploaded a skin there after selecting "Slim". This might be unrelated, but worth a look IMO.

This also appears to be happening to me in all versions of Minecraft that had the Alex model, even 1.9. This also might just be me, but it is happening to me.

Sorry for the follow-up, but it seems like some of the images I attached don't show fully (at least on some resolutions - so open them in a new tab if you're using them to try resolve the issue.

I wanted to see if this is really that widespread - so I logged onto Hypixel, a server that uses 1.8 PvP so it's likely for its players to go between 1.8 (no Alex model) and a later version (with Alex model) where they play in singleplayer.

My expectations were confirmed - lots of players with the same skin problem. This is a big thing.

This happens on all versions that has the steve and alex models, not just 1.15.2 and 1.16 snapshots.

The same issue is happening in 1.12.2.

I hope I can add a little bit of extra information.

Today I tried to change my skin, got the same problem, at first I thought I did something wrong so I decided to change back to my old skin, and even my old skin is affected.

Before I decided to change up my skin for a change, nothing was wrong, no black lines, no issues, I change it to a new one, got the glitch immediately, changed it back, glitch still maintains, redownloaded the skin, problem still persists.

I play vanilla on 1.15.2, I hope this added information will help.

This morning, I logged onto Hypixel and saw that I had the black lines as it was displaying as a 4 pixel skin instead of a 3 pixel skin. At first, I thought it was just me and uploaded it as slim again but it was still in the 4 pixel model. I went on NameMC and saw it was 4 pixels on there as well. I then checked every other slim skin that people had applied and they also had 4 pixels. I play Badlion Client on 1.8.9 but it is also broken on vanilla.

Trying to delete Minecraft, switching skins, reuploading skins, wiping files, switching versions, and not playing with mods will NOT work. I have already tried all of this when I was convinced this was a problem with only me after no one responding to my questions on servers, the best thing to do is wait and not to jeopardize your saves and time while doing the things above. Hope this helps for the people who love Alex formatting too much.

The same thing happend to me. Here's more information I have found.

At first,I uploaded a skin file named A.png, and then there is the glitch. I tried to upload another skin file named B.png, but it did not work. However, if I make changes on A.png and upload it, its changed textures can be displayed, but the model still incorrect.

So, there is a problem that you can cover the file you uploaded before, but you cant upload a new skin file.

If this is any help, I began to have issues with my skin last night and the end of yesterday. Going from Alex to Alex skin was the main issue, resulting in either a steve skin model instead of an Alex or just not changing at all. I was able to fix this through restarting my laptop and immediately uploading a new version of  the skin I wanted on the launcher. 

However this morning when I logged back on to my server, my method no longer worked. It seems that the Alex model itself is inaccessible. Hope this helps~

Just had a thought that might help - If the Minecraft Wiki isn't lying to me and the Alex model was added in 1.8 pre-1, then switching between a version before the addition of Alex and one that's after it has nothing to do with the issue. I, and probably most Hypixel players, only switch between a newer version and 1.8/1.8.9, which are after the addition of Alex as well - and we're still getting the issue.

So it seems like the "switching through versions" that was reported by the original reporter has nothing to do with the issue.

I have that problem in 1.8.9 too.

I am no longer experiencing this issue as I now have a normal alex model applied to my skin.
