Performance decrease in 1.16 compared to 1.15.2

Moderator Note

Based on the experience with MC-45458 and MC-138114, we will keep this report closed until someone experiencing major performance issues when comparing 1.15 and 1.16 can back it up with detailed data, including potential fixes - due to the massive changes in rendering, some performance impact is to be expected however. Thanks for your cooperation.

Don't really know if this is cause of my computer spec, but didn't notice this kind of lag-spikes before 20w21a

Only render distance causes this and 10 chunks seems to be critical point, where red spikes starts to show often

Windows 10 Home
CPU Intel Core i5-8400 2.80 GHz
Memory 8 GB 2133 MHz DDR4 (allocated 4GB to Minecraft)
GPU Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 3GB

Please play around with your setting and check which one is causing this - generic "my game lags" tickets aren't really helpful on the bug tracker.

10 chunks of render distance seems to be critical point where TPS starts to show red spikes, and red spikes begins to show in FPS tab (at least for my pc). Will add computer spec to the report in the moment

Update your GPU drivers as well, it's not by much but they are outdated.

user-39d6c

I'd say FPS table looks a bit better now, but can't say that about TPS and computer fan noises  (much, much louder, but I guess that may be drivers fault)

galaxy_2alex

Just testing myself, and higher render distances do have an effect on both FPS and TPS. Do you notice any significant differences between 1.15.2 and this prerelease?

user-39d6c

After some time there  definitly is a difference

I'm removing the pictures embedded into comments because they are annoying, they will still be available as attachments, sorry about that.

Added a new picture. Experience it also. Sometimes minimizing the window or maximizing it releives the lag instantly

Instead of helping to resolve an issue moderators are marking this as incomplete and throwing away the post.

A lot of people are having FPS issues dropping to 0-3 FPS after the 1.16 update and nothing is being done about it. At a certain point you wonder if its a problem with your code and not us.

There are no steps to "reproduce the problem" except installing Minecraft 1.16, the latest update and playing until lag occurs. The only way to alleviate it is minimizing or maximizing the window. Sometimes that doesnt even work and you have to leave and rejoin a map or server to get the lag to go away. This is not a community issue. This is a mojang rendering issue. If you ask me it sounds like you have a massive memory leak in your rendering.

Note: Continuing to update minecraft will just embed this massive bug further. Considering you want to keep improving the game.. Fix this before releasing the next version. People will keep reporting it.........

No. As you can see, so far, we have had about a dozen reports only about this, with most of them simply being caused by outdated hardware or other issues with the PC. Furthermore, as I am also part of the tech support team, there have been reports about no widespread issues regarding performance, and from what I have seen so far, performance issues specifically between 1.15 and 1.16 are a technical support issue.

I have decided that, based on previous experiences with previous versions, a non-specific report for performance is not the way to go. If you can nail it down to a specific aspect of the rendering system, and have proper data and comparisons to back this up, feel free to create a new report. Until then, please check the Technical Support Resources for potential help with your problem.

Please also note that the bug tracker is not the correct place for these discussions, so please head to the Subreddit or the Discord if you have any other concerns.

I have posted an issue and did the debugging. This is not related to outdated hardware with the pc. Not everyone has windows vista Alex... 😛 Nothing of a technical support issue. https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-199032
