From a certain distance of blocks, squids become frozen in the same place, until the player approaches, releasing them.
To reproduce
Be near a squid and a glow squid
Switch into Spectator mode
Wait for a bit
→ ❌ The squids stop movingSwitch back into Creative
→ The squids start moving againGo further away from the squids
→ ❌ The squids stop moving at some point, as opposed to other animals

I've reopened this since MC-182763 is still different – fish simply stop moving altogether, even if the player is nearby. In this case, squid only stop moving if no player is nearby.
I think all mobs do this which is likely intentional but glow squids (and normal squids) seem to do it noticeably closer than other mobs.
