The bug
A cast fishing line is rendered much further from the fishing rod, while in first person view, than it was in previous versions. In 21w08b, a player casting a fishing line could expect to see it very close to the fishing rod item in their hand, regardless of the distance between the player and the fishing hook:

I can once again reproduce this issue in 21w14a. It was blocked by MC-219849 in 21w11a and 21w13a.
This bug has been a bug for a long time and has been fixed in snapshot 21w03a (I think) this bug is back after the fishing rod rope bug disappeared fixed in snapshot 21w14a
It also depends on the FOV. The higher the FOV, the longer the distance gets between the line and the rod.
The issue with FOV is MC-6579 and happens consistently – this one appears to be hardware related.
