Have some iron bars placed directly under some stairs. When moving the camera, Z-fighting is apparent as per the two screenshots.

There is indeed a slight graphical bugging as they fight with eachother in this position.
It's not just with stairs, nor is this anything new. I've noticed Z-fighting in other situations with iron fences.

Although a minor problem, the flicker from the z-fighting is rather annoying, especially if you want to use a lot of iron bars atop walls and capped with slabs in a structure--e.g., creating an old-fashioned zoo for pigs, cows, wolves, and mooshrooms for your villagers.
Glass panes have a similar Z-problem.
I attached a screenshot where the z-fighting on a glass pane placed on top of a half slab is clearly visible. This is the same on glass panes and iron bars since they share the same code and model.

Confirmed
Bug seems to occur in a variety of situations, above or below a block, regardless of the block used.
The only exception is when three bars/panes extend over a three solid blocks. The middle block/bar/pane will not experience Z-fighting then.
This is present in 12w50a.
Thanks for the fix. Unfortunately, the top and bottom parts of the iron bars/glass pane texture does not now show if there are blocks above and/or below them. Don't know if this was deliberate.
Tim: Yeah... I kind of thought it looked better that way. The top/bottom edges were intended to hide that the panes are infinitely thin, but that's not necessary when there are blocking blocks above/below.
is fixed? wtf i mean for snapshot 13w whatever
