When a mob has no other option than to jump, and water is one block away, they will pause for a long moment before jumping up and getting into water. This did not occur in 1.17.
This happens with all mobs (except cats, who seem totally uninterested in water).
Expectation:
Mobs commit to jumping over that block sooner.

Hi, I've done some further investigating regarding this issue and have discovered that identical behavior can be seen in 1.18 Pre-release 4, 1.17.1, and 1.17. As stated in this ticket, the problem here is that mobs have difficulty pathfinding to water in situations that require them to jump. I've attached three videos in which show me successfully reproducing this problem and experiencing identical results in 1.18-pre4, 1.17.1, and 1.17.
[media][media][media]As for the videos provided by @unknown, I'm not entirely sure why I experienced different results in 1.17 and 1.17.1, but can assure you that this issue is present in these versions. 🙂
