Some values outside of the default range in options.txt have no effect and get reset

Specific options.txt values (tested for "gamma" and "fov" fields) that are beyond the default limit (example: 1.25 FOV or 5.0 gamma) do not have effect and are being reset when the file is accessed for writing (opening of Options/Video Settings tab in the game menu).

Expected effect (snapshot 22w11a):

Notice how the image is brighter and the FOV is wider

Current effect (snapshots 22w12a, 22w13a):

Here FOV got reset back to normal and gamma got reset to 1.0. Both screenshots are taken in the exact same location and mouse position.

Both java 17 and 18 have same effect.

How to reproduce: change the "fov" field in options.txt to 1.25 and "gamma" field to 5.0 or use this

In the versions 22w11a and below you can see how these modifications have effect while in 22w12a and 22w13a they do not

This was never a feature to begin with, but a bug. The bug got patched. (MC-51418)

Changing graphics settings outside the game is not supported.

I have night blindness. The interior of a nether fortress looks black to me. When I place a torch, I see a floating torch on a black screen. By adjusting the gamma setting to 10 I can see some interior structure of the fortress. Same with dark oak and the deep dark. Now I'm stuck to 1.18. Maybe a texture pack should solve this issue.

You could also turn your screen's brightness higher.

It was literally used to cheat on servers, and never called intended by mojang. A behavior is only intended if the designer says so, not the user.
