Jungle saplings drop at half the rate of other saplings (2.5% per leaf) — 1×1 jungle trees are often net-negative and unsustainable to replant (Java Edition)

Jungle leaves drop jungle saplings only 2.5% (1/40) of the time when leaf blocks decay or are broken (this is half the 5% rate of most other tree types). With Fortune III the jungle-leaf sapling chance only reaches ~4.17%, which is still below other trees’ base 5%. Because of this, small (1×1) jungle trees typically return less than one sapling on average, making small-tree farming unsustainable.

Additional notes

  • Wandering Traders can sell jungle saplings (backup option), but this is an unreliable/expensive workaround for an underlying drop-rate imbalance.

Suggested fix / expectation for a patch

Raise jungle leaf sapling drop chance to 5% (match other tree leaves).

small jungle trees on average have 55 leaves, while the minimum sapling drop rate is 1/40, meaning farming small jungle trees on average is not unsustainable.

large jungle trees seem to have 200-320 leaves, meaning you will get 5-8 saplings on average.

This issue is not a bug, rather an old feature.

Jungle trees were the first ones to be able to grow in a 2x2 pattern. This made the number of leaves grow exponentially and so the saplings dropped too.
