The issue
When a bucketed sulfur cube splits the 2 small sulfur cubes left behind can despawn despite the big one not despawning
Steps to reproduce the issue (shown in attached video)
Place a bucketed sulfur cube
Kill it so it splits
Fly far away
Expected results
The small sulfur cubes remain because they originated from the big one which doesn’t despawn in this way
Actual results
It despawns upon getting far away

I don’t think this should be intended, it will lead to people loosing their sulfur cubes if they tried to duplicate them as it was advertised in the initial reveal, and they decide to go somewhere else while waiting for the sulfur cubes to grow up
As well as not intuitive considering the sulfur cubes still originated from a bucket and the big sulfur cube from the bucket doesn’t despawn
Why would this work as intended? If you breed hoglins (another monster-mobcap mob that despawns by default) the offspring is immediately flagged as persistent as well. It doesn’t make sense the equivalent action for sulfur cubes (i.e. splitting them) would result in a despawn.
Expanding this further, even the witch a villager converts to when struck by lightning is persistent! And that’s not even necessarily a player-caused conversion.
I agree that this should be reopened. This is unfair to survival players, because it means they have to give the baby sulfur cubes a name tag, leash, slime ball, or golden dandelion to make them persistent. And you can’t even put the small ones in a bucket to make them persistent, either.
no Muzikblike, first you split them not breed them and second how would anyone start an farm then:
I want a pig farm, ho shit al my piglets despawned, now we go search for some new pigs then for the 6the time, then would getting an level 30 enchantment table a real struggle (English is not my native langue) (and sorry if this is a bit passive aggressive)
and I hate this problem of sulfur cubes a lot, because I love sulfur cubes (thank you mojang for sulfur cubes :) )
Sorry Muzikbike I read your tekst wrong, so The answer is yes but you cant breed sulfur'cubes you split them
Sorry, I didn’t realize that the only way to apply persistence was a golden dandelion, my mistake. But that only makes this issue worse. Needing to babysit or waste golden dandelions is inconsistent with how other mobs reproduce and defeats the purpose of this new feature. This has already confused and frustrated many players who are unaware of this glitch. This is indeed a bug, not an intended gameplay feature. I strongly believe this needs to be reopened.
This should be reopened. It is incredibly unintuitive for the adult mob to be unable to despawn once placed from a bucket and not pass this trait onto the split cubes, especially since you need to be essentially afk for 20 minutes while you wait for them to grow up.
