Game is sending incorrect (additional?) frames to the video buffer.

I'm recording an episode of a let's play with DxTory (I'm fairly certain this is not a DxTory bug). Everything seems to work fine while recording, but when reviewing the footage, I am seeing frames in the recording that DxTory cannot possibly be creating, for example, skin files from Minecraft directories, displayed as static images on screen. My assumption is that these frames are being shown too fast for the human eye to see them in normal play mode, but somehow the recording process makes them more obvious. This did not happen with 13w28b.

What I expected to happen was...:
Recording with DxTory, expect normal video recording.

What actually happened was...:
Getting strange frames recorded, including the flattened skin file for squids, interspersed with the actual game footage.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Minecraft, log into my own private server running on the same machine
2. Start DxTory and start recording. Record for a few minutes.
3. Review footage.

I've attached a brief, very compressed clip that shows what I'm talking about. The random frames start at about 16 seconds in.

Can't replicate this with Fraps or MSI Afterburner's in-built screen capture tool.
Needs further testing.

Not confirmed with Fraps.

Can't replicate with Dxtory Stable (2.0.122)

Can't replicate with Dxtory 2.0.123 Trial

Can't replicate with FRAPS on a normal SinglePlayer world, FAST as well as FANCY setting.

  • Is it happening to him EVERY time he records ?

  • He shall check if the problem occurs also on a NORMAL SP world (no server).

  • If possible, someone shall join his localhost server and record, to see if it also affects the 2nd player

  • Note: It didn't happen not before he jumped into the water in his video footage (coincidence maybe, but it was directly noticeable for me/hit my eye[).

If it is a DxTory bug, it is one that was triggered by a change in MC. I have confirmed that switching back to 13w38c fixes the problem. My framerate settings are DxTory 29.97, MC 120 (default). Will test further with different framerate settings as well as hitting the water vs not and SSP vs SMP, and test today's snapshot also. Also note that I have tested with another computer using the exact same settings, and did not experience the problem, although it was accessing the server over a lan, and not on the same machine. It may also have to do with the capabilities of the machine, as my actual FPS during recording is in the low to mid 20s, and with the other computer it was closer to 15-17.

Isolated the issue with big help from GenerikB for testing. Should be fixed next snapshot.

I just had a thought, maybe it's the computer's framerate having problems with DxTory?
That would explain it not being a bug for all using it.

(Does limiting the framerate, while recording, to 30fps help?)

whoa, whatever Mister Adams did, he did it fast }xD
