Dinnerbone has spoken, he said it's intended.
I guess "Works as Intended" isn't the best expression, it might be more of a "Won't fix"

Are you kidding me? So every time I want to hear a jukebox song first I have to turn down my music volume??? That is just hilarious.
Looks like I need to change all of my music settings of my RP, for my RPG map to work as I was looking forward to. With all those nice features from the new sound system THIS bug ruins the whole concept.. at least they've fixed the Multiply songs playing in the background but still it makes absolutely no sense at all to have the background music on. Every playsound command with custom sound or even music would play along with the background music which is absurd to my opinion..

Thank you for stealthily deleting my comment, mods. I didn't know the shift-key offended you so much. I'll keep this in mind from now on.
As I said:
1. Multiple tracks playing at once is not relaxing.
2. It did not happen before 1.7.
3. Requiring us to manually turn off music every time we play a jukebox and remembering to turn it back on afterwards is not acceptable.

@Hawk - No problem, you want to discuss an issue fine. You want to yell and scream at people, make demands, you will be muted this is not a forum, take it to the suggestion forums on reddit. Hence why I didn't mute the other comment you made about this subject on another ticket, because you phrased it like a reasonable person, and why I will not mute the comment above. Just keep in mind if you are not providing information or discussion in a reasonable manner, to help the discussion of the issue progress, then you will be muted.

I think that if you make this work as intended which means you basically force us to deal with a new sound system, that has a weak point (who would like to go to their settings and change volume just for listening to one track on the jukebox). The point is that you guys give resourcepack makers a huge amount of possibilities like custom sounds but do not consider the fact that with background music playing there is just no way to play those sounds if they have a music background. I mean why is it such a problem? Can't you just make sound that have "stream" set to true cancel each other? Or maybe make a /cancelsound command which would cancel every sound playing at the moment. There are already adventure maps coming out which recomend turning music sound off (like the Reverie map from the Gazamo team) so where is the point in such a sound system?
EDIT:
After some time playing with my music in the resource packs I've notice another awesome thing: background music isn't played while a /playsound is running for a player. So please don't tell mi this can't be fixed because I just can't believe it after seeing such an ALMOST ideal sound system. But this bug is the only reason why I can't sleep calm. So Mojang and especially Dinnerbone do your best! I have faith in you 🙂

For all the mapmakers having problems with this or for those who have creative and access to commandblocks I've figured out a simple fix how to stop the background music: Just make a little redstone contraption with 2 commandblocks setting for 1 tick a different gamemode than the current and after that setting it back. Every gamemode change causes the background music to stop. First I found it annoying now it's pretty useful especially for mapmakers like me! Jukeboxes also can be connected to redstone wired with those commandblocks. If you want help how to I can provide you with screenshots.

@ShadedPL I'm sure someone will appreciate it, but that's not a fix, that's a workaround, and a cumbersome one at that.

@Hawk J
I know but since they've made it work as intended, they unlikely will change that no matter how much we will be hating. They will delete our comments ninja style like all the complains about the new ugly pixelated Mojang logo, which cannot be changed. Sometimes I think that with every new update they are trying to make our lives harder. The MCP which nearly every mod depends on, especially forge is probably the best example of my argument. Also the polish community is pretty upset about messing up with the unicode font. Sometime changes are bad and this update we've had a bunch of that, not everyone liked everything, it's just not possible. To my opinion some of the changes are just completely useless but what can I do? We have to adapt them and try to find some ways around.

@Shaded We don't delete comments based on us not liking them. We do it when it's off-topic, or the inane yammering of a child saying is it done yet? Is it done now? How a bout now? The Mojang logo problem was exactly that. Feel free to discuss the issues on the bug tracker, we aren't here to be jerks, we are here to keep this place civil and in some sense of order.
Also remember while you may find a feature useless others may not, and some are simply a change to allow other upcoming stuff. You can't make everyone happy, and someone will always whine.
I totally agree that the Jukebox should override background music, even some things that we mods want to see won't happen, we aren't the magic little evil elves that some people make us out to be. The best you can do now is post it on Minecraft Suggestions on Reddit.

@Talven81
I didn't mean any disrespect I think you mods do a great job but at least you could inform us when deleting a comment especially if it's not a spamming one.
And I clearly do understand the fact that not everybody can be satisfied. Changes always work that way, that's why I've posted a workaround to stop the background music, even if not the most convenient I hope that sb will make a use of it. At least you don't have to go to the menu turning down the music volume just to listen to your favorite song of the Jukebox.

Wow, works as intended. Stupid reason. It wasn't like this before, and it sure as Hell was not listed on the change log. It should be considered a glitch. But some people are too lazy to fix what they break.

So, the intended behavior of the Jukebox is to nag players. Ermm.... Well done, I guess, in creating an anti user-friendly game feature, just like we learnt in game design.

I Don't care what the mods say, this is a bug, it wasn't intended, it's not on the update log, therefore it is a bug. So it should not be listed as "working as intended" as it obviously isn't intended, and requires to fixed, not ignored and marked as if it was working properly, as that is the same "mistake" that developer's made when making games like Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) and Batman: Arkham Origins. I know it isn't as drastic and game breaking as that, but one thing leads to another, and it could happen later, just don't allow this to be a catalyst to the possible downfall of Minecraft in the near to late future.

Please reopen.

That's most likely not going to happen, Hawk. If Mojang says that its intended, then its intended.

Does anybody enjoy listening to two different music tracks at the same time? No. Because listening to two music tracks at the same time is like listening to music track at all. It's not music, it's just noise and very jarring.
This has to be treated like a bug. There is no way that this was intended. Dinnerbone was just being lazy.

Saying that the background music should stop when a jukebox starts playing is like saying that the background music should stop whenever a mob makes a sound. Jukebox music is a part of the game, just like any other sounds. If you don't like the background music, just turn it off.

@Isaac King: That comparison is inane. Background music and game sounds are two different things and they can coexist (source: almost every computer game ever made). Background music and in-game music are the same thing and cannot coexist, unless they are specifically designed to harmonize and sync (source: almost every computer game ever made).
Let's not forget that prior to the update that changed this, Minecraft did not play both music tracks at the same time. Find me one single example of a person who complained about this.

@@unknown: For what players do you want to stop the background music ? For all players, even those thousands of blocks away from the jukebox ? For those 32 blocks around the jukebox which may can hear a faint sound of the jukebox ?
Same for noteblocks ?

For those 32 blocks around the jukebox which may can hear a faint sound of the jukebox ?
Yes.
Edit: quoted too much. (My answer is "no" for noteblocks).

Michael McCluskey I totally agree with you, it's very annoying when you are listening to your favourite song and background music starts to play.
