Trying this bug report thing again. This is a major issue. I have screenshots to support the report this time. In the newest updates 1.7 prerelease and 1.7.1 I am still experiencing major FPS issues. The memory used rarely goes above about 15%. In the last version that I was able to play (13w39b) I don't have this issue at all.

One thing I noticed is that in the version that works (13w39b), my FPS stays about the same when paused and when in game. In the version that doesn't work I have low FPS in game, but in the pause menu, my FPS goes up to what it usually is (or better) in the version of the game that works.

What has changed in Minecraft to cause such a drastic issue with my FPS?

I get this as well, it started post 13w39b. It only happens in a village for me (naturally spawned but expanded door wise). I see the memory use going up quickly, FPS goes to 0-4, then after ~15-20 seconds it goes normal again. It repeats about once a minute. crash report attached.

Seems to be pretty similar except mine is constant and never goes back to normal and happens wherever I am in the world. I really hope that some folks have some suggestions on how to maybe fix it ourselves other than the standard reply of "get a better computer"

I've tried everything I can think of, but I'm sure there's something I'm overlooking.

If a quad core i7 with 24 gb of memory (2 dedicated to the JVM) and the app running of a striped set of SSDs I'm not sure what more I can add without spending hundreds on SLI'd video cards.

Wow, makes me feel better knowing that a much better computer is having issues. Horrible that the issue exists, but glad to know it's not just me and my dinosaur.

Issue still present in 1.7.2 I did get my FPS to jump up to 19 for like two seconds in game before it dropped back down to 0-3 FPS, though.

Btw, these weren't just leaves that were in render view. They only had to be in chunks that were in range of the client as the leaf blocks were changing.

I am not experiencing it as of 14w04b, however I have made sufficient changes to my world since this was reported that I cannot say what may have fixed this.

Ok, just got hit again today for the first time in a while. Snapshot 14w05b. Not super close to where I had experienced it before (a village, the few you see in the crash report are in trading stalls). Went down to zero FPS and stuck there for at least 20 seconds before I could get a forced crash which is worse than I'd experienced before. Will continue to monitor.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.
